We had the good fortune of connecting with Celeste Rickert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celeste, what inspires you?
What inspires me… Oh this question is full of infinite answers and pure excitement!! There are so many topics and subjects but I’d have to say anything that moves me soulfully. Whether it’s the homeless man on the corner, curious what his life story is or walking across the prairie lands in Yellowstone National Park just to photograph the bison up close. There’s beauty and wonder everywhere you look. I’m always fascinated of “life.” I have been doing art for 20 years now and I absolutely love capturing a soul in my portraits. It truly gives me purpose to bring life to a blank canvas or sheet of paper. In recent years, I drew a portrait of Jesus and it’s put me on a completely different path than I had expected. I realized my art spreads love and light in the world and THAT’s a feeling that is priceless!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the greatest quotes about being an artist was perfectly said by Picasso. “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” There is so much truth to this. Being an artist past junior high or even high school is tough. You have to work your ass off! You have to be willing to pour countless hours and effort not only into your work but yourself. Finding the courage to keep going even when struggling through life’s “seasons.” Because it happens to all of us. Many will spend too much time away and then fear creeps in. A blank canvas or sheet of paper can be extremely intimidating when it feels like a stranger. My ultimate encouragement, keep going. Paint what you want. Draw what you want. Create what you want. End of the day, you’re the only person you can count on. And if you want it bad enough, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Cheers to finding yourself and never stop growing!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a local Houstonian, there are so many awesome places to visit and see! Two favorite sexy, night time dinners is Sambuca’s downtown or fabulous Flemings over in City Centre! If you need a good laugh or a fun band, be sure and check out tickets at Revention Music Center! Always a great time that never disappoints! And if you happen to party too hard, you can be sure to cure your hangover with a one of a kind burger from Hopdoddy with a killer Bloody Mary!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I must give so much recognition and gratitude to my Mama Bear. My sweet, loving Mother has always been my biggest cheerleader, greatest critic and best life coach. She recently passed away Nov. 7, 2021 from cancer. Although she is no longer with us, I know her spirit lives within me. The most valuable lesson she ever taught me in life is that love is limitless. The Jesus cards that I created will always be a reminder of the love she gave. I will always be grateful for her role in my life.
