We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaide-Monet Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaide-Monet, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by the trees, leaves, bees and all things in between. I find myself looking up at the sky very often and seeing faces in the clouds or different colors from the sunsets and storing that information in the back of my mind for a project I’m working on. I love to observe people as well. We all have such unique style of dress and swagger. I will see something I like on someone, compliment them and then look to recreate that in my own way because I know others should see it too. Discussing these reflections with my business partners is key in our creations. We take a collaborative approach to these ideas, adding dimension to our work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been more creative these past few years than I have ever been. I really believe this business keeps me in that mindset and is helping me evolve through that creativity. I’m very empathetic and look to give back to whatever community I’m in. I love our youth and I make sure a percentage of our sales is donated to schools, and shelters each month. My aunt Alicia taught me at an early age to give back to those in need and that has stuck with me ever since. In the near future we will be providing sponsorships and internship positions for our youth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First place I would say is 13 Celsius. Their vibe is so swanky, I love it there. Make your rounds to The Flat. The music is always nice, they have a beautiful patio and the plant-based food truck that partners with them- Bloom is amazing! Present Company will get you ready to party with their cute drinks! Uchi has some of the best Japanese small plates in town! My girlfriend once bought the whole vegetarian menu for my birthday during COVID and I will never forget how ecstatic I was. It’s always a good time at JRs, especially when there’s a drag show or karaoke. Rodeo Goat will live in my heart. The Bodacious Burger with an Impossible patty is excellent. I love to walk so you can find me at Buffalo Bayou Park. Discovery Green also has some of the best art installations and activities!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love love love to shoutout my mom, Nathalie Francis (Co-CEO) and my girlfriend, Star DeLuca. They have been holding down the fort since we all started the business. If it wasn’t for my mom, Rhubarb & Ice wouldn’t have the funding, the push and drive that it has today. Star DeLuca helps out so much with the technical side of the business, things I never would have thought of. She helps me stay grounded, especially when I’m ready to throw in the towel on hard days. I appreciate them dearly and am happy to be in the position I am in because of them. Also, shout out to all my friends I have ever brainstormed about Rhubarb & Ice with like Sasha Ordoñez, Vanessa Barrientos, Crystal Murdaugh. All who have come out in the Texas heat to support like Tanya Costilla, Jazmin Osores and my dad-Darren Davis! I always look to highlight the RAI community like those on our Instagram and website because this wouldn’t be without them.
