We had the good fortune of connecting with Thierry Tchenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thierry, how do you think about risk?
Risks have played a major role in my life especially over the last 7 months. My wife and I moved to Houston at the beginning of the year without employment. While in DC, we decided we would move to Houston at the end of 2021. It was always a desire of mine to do meaningful work in my home city. My belief is when you follow your passions and convictions, risks should be seen more as opportunities to be a good steward of the gifts you have been given. The opportunity resulted in me joining Rebuilding Together Houston(RTH) as the Chief Communications and Programs Officer at the beginning of May.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rebuilding Together Houston is a nonprofit organization that provides home repairs to low-income individuals and families at no cost to the homeowner. Our work includes targeted programming to residents of the East End and Third Ward as well as serving Veterans and those in need of wheelchair ramps all across Harris County. With the home being the foundation for families, our work plays a major role in creating safe homes and communities. Our CEO, Christine Holland is always communicating with the team that the work we do for homeowners is transformational. This year, Rebuilding Together Houston is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the organization has repaired over 14,680 homes which averages to one family helped per day for 40 years.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Robert Mosbacher Jr., who founded Rebuilding Together Houston in 1982. Rebuilding Together Houston’s success would not be possible without its staff and volunteers. Volunteers have been the heart of the organization since RTH’s inception with over 300,000 volunteers who have worked with RTH over the last 40 years.
