We had the good fortune of connecting with Naveen Tan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naveen, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art can be seen all around us. It is up to every individual to define what art means to them. I come from an engineering background and still have career in the more non-artistic side of things. I decided to pursue a more creative path at the same time as I feel there is an artist within me who is looking for ways to express myself. Everyone has unique creativity in their own ways. I let mine out through my lens. After discovering photography several years ago, I have been fascinated with what can be captured through the camera. Different people capturing the same image may have quite a different outcome. Same with any art, every one expresses themselves differently. I believe my art and photographic creativity is unique to me and it has pretty much become a passion for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am very happy about where I am today. Although I know that I still have a long way to go, I can’t quite complain about where I have come from. Years ago, I would not have imagined that I would have achieved what I have in the art and creative world. It is definitely not easy as I come from a more engineer background and I did not have any training in the arts. Everything has been self thought and through hours and days of painful trial and error. In order to overcome the challenges, I had to be vigilant about learning and not fearing failure. As long as I can learn from something I needed to do it. If we are not doing, we are not learning and not progressing. Major lesson I have learnt from my journey is never be afraid of anything. Do not be afraid to ask, to learn, to fail. Nothing will be accomplished without making the first move. The Nomad Journey is a brand that stands for journey. Our journey through life. Our journey through every special moment, whether is it a joyful moment or sorrowful one. All the experience we have through our journey is what makes us who we are. The Nomad Journey is there to preserve moments for a lifetime.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is of course known as the rocket city. We have NASA, the Rockets NBA and also the Astros! Beautiful city with lots to do and see.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a big shout out to my spouse who has supported me through everything I have done. She not only gives me the time and space that I need but also the encouragement to pursue my passion. My kids who have supported me by participating in the endless test shoots that I use for practicing. Also, not forgetting the Houston photography and modeling community that has been a key contributor to my art and creativity.
