We had the good fortune of connecting with Contreece Bullard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Contreece, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I would say my thought process at the time was entrepreneurship. I have always wanted my own business; I grew up in a large family. There were nine of us. I watched my father work for someone his entire life. When I was young, growing up in the country in Altheimer, Arkansas I did not see a lot of Black entrepreneurs. Although our highest population was approximately two thousand people. All the businesses were own by white people. I know those were contrasting times then. Most families were trying to keep the lights on. I am the middle girl. I have two sisters above me and two below me. I was always different from them. The way I viewed life and my ambition was on steroids. I wanted more then what I saw growing up. I desired a life where I could be free to work for myself. I love real estate and I knew that whatever profession God allowed me to thrive in that would be the business I start. There must be something inside of you that has a desire to work for yourself. It is challenging work but rewarding work. When you understand your hustle, you will be a go getter. I work hard so I can be a blessing to others. I want people to know my name, I want to matter.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Realtor at CR Elite Realty in Houston Texas. I am from Arkansas, and I was a realtor there for a number of years. There is nothing I do not love about real estate. For me, it is about the relationships. These are long lasting relationships. We work on referrals and when I have a client, I make sure the process is as seamless as possible. I partner with them to help them find a new home, sell their existing home, locate investment property, locate commercial property, and educate my buyers on programs that are being offered by the city of Houston. I am not just their realtor; I am the person they are entrusting this process with. It is my belief two of the biggest decisions we make in life are buying a home and choosing a mate. I do the absolute best I can to assist in any area they need help with.
What sets me apart from others is my willingness to go beyond to help my clients. I partnered with moving companies in Houston so I can help my clients get moved in quickly at a decent price. I provide virtual appointments, when necessary, concierge services, home staging services, house cleaning, clear communication, and I host their housewarming party for them. I invite everyone from the neighborhood to see their new home. I provide the food, drinks etc. Only when my clients are requesting a housewarming party.
I am most excited about this market; it is up and down but real estate has always been up and down. It excites me to meet new clients and begin the process of finding them their dream home. I love listing homes and hosting open houses. It was not easy, and it is not easy now with higher interest rates and the average cost of as home in Houston is $415,000. When just two years ago it was in the $300,000’s. We are seeing rates increase and inflation go up. But the market is steady, and it is still an exciting time to purchase a new home or a new construction home.
I overcome challenges by just keep going. I never give up on anything unless I truly have too. Life is challenging!! We will face challenges daily, but it is how you face them that tells the true story. I try to be better than the day before. I wake up each morning with a prayer and I go through my day ready for whatever may come that day. I am grateful for the challenges they build my strength.
I have learned so many valuable lessons throughout my life. I think the biggest lesson I have learned is it does not matter how people treat you, it is how you respond. I am a divorcee and when you get divorced you must access the situation. You must look at what you did wrong to attribute to the disillusion of the marriage. I spent two years working on myself. I wanted to better for God and myself and it was some of the rewarding work, I’ve ever done.
I want the world to know that I am not just a realtor. I am a woman!! I am writing my first book. I am excited about where I am and where I am headed. If you choose me as your realtor, know that you are working with someone that always has your best interest in mind. I am here to educate you on the process of buying a new home. It is a partnership.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to The Roof on The Lake in Sugar Land. It is beautiful place to dine in at. Another place that I adore is Brenner’s Steakhouse on the Bayou 1 Birdsall St. Houston, Texas. That location has a beautiful scenery. It was such a pleasant place to dine in at. I am a foodie, so I am always trying unfamiliar places to eat at. If they want a good drink, I will take them to Davenport’s or Five Central. I love both of those spots. As a realtor, I do a lot of networking, so we are out a lot and most times eating and drinking. I also like Vic’s and Anthony! I am truly a seafood junkie. I can eat seafood every day. So, when I am looking for new spots, it is usually going to be a seafood place. Houston has so many places to enjoy. The Turkey Leg Hut is a wonderful place to eat. The food is impressive.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a shoutout to Dr. Dharius Daniels! He is a pastor in New Jersey. In 2020 I was going through a bad break-up, and I was really having a tough time. One day I was sitting crying and I remember picking up my cell phone going to YouTube, which I often do to listen to sermons. God directed me to Dr. Daniels. At that time, I had never heard of him. I clicked on a sermon and my life has been better because of it. Listening to his teaching for the past two years has grown my spiritual life tremendously. The way I think and apply the word of God is on a new level. Although he is not my pastor, I call him my secondary pastor. I am currently a member of Time of Celebration Ministries under the leadership of Rev. Jimmy Flowers Jr. and Tanisha Flowers. God will always send us to the right place to get the teaching we need. I want to be used as a vessel for Jesus! Under the leadership Pastor Flowers I am learning how to do things a different way. He teaches us about sin, but how to overcome sin.
