We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, how do you define success?
How do I define success?
I speak a lot about defining ones own definition of success on my IG platform the 7 a.m. 7 Minute Successful Morning Meetup every M-W-F. I have learned over the years there is no one definition of success, I was made to believe, lots of money, fame, a wealthy spouse, a high paying big name job, fancy expensive cars, the big house and a maid was the epitome of success. But don’t get me wrong I still am going after the money because it will buy my freedom, being able to own my 24 hours and live how I want to live. I want to be able to give more abundantly to others and pass down financial literacy, & wealth to my descendants.
My definition of success also means, breaking generational curses of poverty, mediocrity and surviving to get by. My children deserve to have what some call luxury be the norm. My kids didn’t ask to be here so therefore they deserve every opportunity to get the start they need in life to thrive, live life freely and walk in their purpose. Lastly, I still want that maid! it will free me to be able continue to focus on my goals and spending more time with the people I love!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I received the vision to create Oh Girl Read My Shirt after I hit rock bottom in my life and took a long hard look in the mirror telling myself I needed to make a change or lose everything I loved. I never thought in this lifetime I would be a entrepreneur. I would tell anyone who would listen that entrepreneurship was not for me. I hated to work 9-5’s, I would always either quit or get fired, but at the same time I had no idea what my purpose was in life and at one point gave up and believed that that old life was the hand I was dealt. I was just going to raise my children to be great and give them a great life but I had given up on mine.
Once I decided that God did not create me to live a life of mediocrity and it was selfish of me to give up on myself, the vision of Oh Girl Read My Shirt was created. My brand represents all females young or old who once lived a life below their standards then decided that their life was meant for more, for greatness, to live life to the fullest, unapologetically, happy, and at peace. We can have everything our hearts desire, the visions that we have will get stronger and stronger and can be become a reality as long as we show up four ourselves and do the work. My statement pieces are for women who don’t explain and don’t have time to so they allow Oh Girl’s brand to speak for them.
I got to where I am professionally by changing my IG pages from following gossip blogs and entertainment blogs, to following people who are successful and changing the narrative of their life. I have bought the courses and the seminars on how to start a business, how to invest my money in the stock market, how to create generational wealth and change my thought process. I continue to learn everyday, I am an avid reader.
What is easy for me is making content for IG and my store, giving and pouring into others, creating positive messages for my brand. What is not easy is always staying consistent when I don’t see the results I desire, I overcome those challenges by continuing to believe in myself and knowing as long as I put the work in everyday, everything I planted will harvest. I listen to everything around me and God will give me confirmation through the things and people around me, I rest in that.
The lessons I learned along the way is to not re-invent the wheel, there are so many people that have come before me, I will pay the money to learn those lessons, I will ask for help and advice from those who are already where I want to be. I learned to just do it, stop waiting for the “right” time because there is no such thing. Don’t worry about what anyone has to say, keep walking in your purpose. Enjoy the journey, learn from the “setbacks” adjust, fail forward and if I fail, I am not starting over from scratch, I am starting from experience. Just live life big!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person I would like to shoutout is my Husband! He has stuck with me through all the up’s and down’s, even when I didn’t know how to love myself, he loved me for me. He is the most patient man on Earth. He is a constant positive motivation and driving force in my life. He encourages me and pushes and challenged me to change my negative habits, thoughts and actions and gave me the strength to do an evaluation of my life and make the needed and crucial changes in order to be the person God created me to be! This man is a hard worker, provider, protector a great husband, father, friend and stranger! He knows how to bring the best out of everyone around him and he is one of the main reasons I changed for the better and stepped out on faith to be everything I was created to be.
