We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Martinez Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, this business was actually passed down to me from my father. He ended up having a stroke at the shop about 8 months ago that almost ended his life but I thank God for the paramedics getting to him just in time. I mean, he’s 73 years old with all kinds of health issues and currently his body allows him to do only so much. Now it’s time for me to step up and takeover the family business.

What should our readers know about your business?
So, Jose Auto hobby shop is an automotive repair shop that is a independent family-owned and operated business. We specializing in performs maintenance, diagnostic testing, repairs and A/C check. We work on engines, drive belts, serving transmissions, oil change and battery charging etc. What I am extremely proud of and excited about, is the fact that I am a black business owner creating generational wealth for my family and I would able to pass down my business to my son like my father did to me. I’m where I’m at today, business wise, due to God working in mysterious ways. Owning and running my own business hasn’t been easy but I believe obstacles are inevitable in life. There’s times I wanted to give up because I fell completely overwhelmed by everything that was coming at me in a moment of vulnerability but why would I? How would I be able to leave something to my son if I was to quit. One lesson I’ve learned is how to management money as a business owner because running your own business is completely different from working a nine to five, collecting hourly wages. I’ve also learned that working hard, stay consistent and remaining dedicated to my vision, regardless of it’s uncertainty is what’s necessary in order for my dream to manifest fully.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes! I would like to shoutout my beautiful wife Mauricia Banks Martinez who works behind the scene, making sure the business is operating on the highest level of professionalism, and who also supported me in making the decision to work for myself instead of someone else. I mean it’s a life changing decision to go from working in the oil industry making a steady income jumping straight into a business with uncertainty. I would also like to shoutout my dad Jose Martinez Sr. because without his passion, dedication and decision to become a business owner in a career field that he loves, I wouldn’t be in a position to be featured in this magazine today.
