We had the good fortune of connecting with Luisa Esperanza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luisa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic/ creative career to capture memories that would last a life time. My father since I was a baby captured pictures of me growing up. There was so many pictures that I do not recall but I see the photographs and I smile. As we get older, we seem to forget moments and a picture brings it all back or helps you remember the growth.
A picture is an art of memory. An art that can be kept for years to come and for those who come after you to remember you.
I grabbed a camera took a picture and I couldn’t let the camera go because it reminded me of how my father took so many pictures of me and my siblings and how happy the photographs made me after looking at them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I attended Mac Arthur HighSchool and I decided to take the photography elective. I ended up loving it and Decided to take it for the remaining of my HighSchool years as an elective.
My photography teacher Mr. Quinn ended up encouraging me to pursue photography for a future career or hobby. I bought a camera and took a few images and practiced with my little cousins and I did love it.
Fast forward to a few years later. I became decoupaged and started working a 8-5 Job and put photography on the backend.
It is now 2020, a world wide pandemic happened and I decided to start practicing my photography skills while on lock down. Lockdown was lifted and I started booking client. In these two years I have practiced a lot and I have grown my business.
With so many amazing photographers out there, what sets me apart is my kindness and willing to help others. I make sure to share my tips, my locations for Photoshoot and where I buy any props. When any other photographer asks, I am happy to help with anyway I can. Also, I love conversations with my clients. I always make sure my clients feel comfortable during the process and I make sure I am their biggest hype (wo)man.
I want to let the world know that if you ever want to start your own business, start it! There is always a person, a family, a friend that will support you the whole way. To be kind and to always remember that you as a business owner also deserves to be valued.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love food. Houston has amazing spots for eating and who doesn’t, right? One of my favorites places is Blk Mkt Birria and the Hamburtorta from Pistoleros.
Post Houston has all the views at night and amazing food as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out all who have supported my small business. Those who continue to book with me and recommend me to friends and family.
Shout out to my father, Jose Esperanza, he helps me build props, has volunteered to be a model in the past and most importantly has always encouraged me to work hard and never give up.
Shout out to my HighSchool teacher Mr. Quinn for telling me to pursue a career in photography because of him, L.M.E Photography started.
It is very easy to give up on a dream that can take a while to build, but the key is to stay in course and always have fun. Organization is super important. I started with a free booking site to help me manage my appointments and trust me it is better than your personal calendar.
