We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adriana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought blossomed from the desire to achieve both personal and professional goals. It was my passion for the field that drove me to directly serve my community. Mental Health professionals are always on demand. However, I knew that I wanted the flexibility to address specialized needs. I had, and continue to have, a strong will to take on the many ways in which mental health, especially disordered eating, negatively impact our lives. HKA Counseling was born!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What excites me the most is that I can serve patients remotely. I started my private practice September 2019 and decided to dedicate my full attention to it at the start of 2020. The introduction of COVID-19 had it challenges, but the practice had a mission and kept treading forward. What excites me now is that I continue to serve clients all over Texas. I never anticipated that Telehealth would be in such high demand. We are fortunate to have a platform available that can meet the needs of anyone in search for mental health services.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a fan of maintaining a work life balance. In my time away from work, I seek out adventure with quality people. As of late, I have found peace in nature. I would likely invite a dear friend to embrace what a tiny cabin has to offer in Navasota, TX. We’d likely embark on a hike or two, enjoy historical sites, take in the views of family owned farms, visit Lake Conroe’s shore line and savor local restaurants. Less is more when you are hoping to recharge from the daily monotonous grind.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my LPC supervisors. I would not be where I am today without their guidance and excellent mentorship.
