Meet Shalyn | Singer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shalyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shalyn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have been singing since I could talk honestly. It was something I always loved. I realized it was all i wanted to do the summer after my first year in college. It became more than a hobby for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Honestly, everyday is still a huge battle for me. There are days where I feel really uninspired and somedays where I question if I really love this enough to keep fighting for it. I love music and writing is my peace. However, this can all be so overwhelming especially as an independent artist. Although I’ve been at this for years, I feel I’m just starting out my journey, and right now I dont have much of a team. So it makes alot of the things I want to do ten times harder. But I’m learning to be more patient with myself and my journey. Doing so has blessed me with some of my favorite songs and I’m only getting better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am actually a bit of a homebody but if I go out I like to do something fun, adventurous, and entertaining. I am a huge foodie! So I like to try new restaurants often, if I had to recommend a restaurant I would say Waffle Bus. Currently obsessed with the Macdaddy sandwhich. Not your traditional food option but it goes crazy. Lastly, I love art exhibits, museums, concerts, comedy shows, I love being outside and soaking in the scenery. To just sit and listen to the world around me is soothing, so a day at the park is definitely my vibe. Either having a picnic or working out or just simply basking in the sun and sky.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to Jonny Blue for being apart of my very first album and producing such amazing beats. For being apart of my journey honestly. Also, a huge shoutout to Zay Blaze who engineered my very first original song and mixed everything on my debut album Moon After Moon. They believed in me, helped me, & inspired me in a time where I felt I lacked the most drive and support. So shoutout to them because this set the tone for whats to come!
