Meet Gabriela Desousa | Content Creating & Airbnb Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Desousa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
First and foremost: a positive mindset. Putting yourself in a positive mindset is a huge benefactor that allowed any other habit to fall in place for me. I will wake up being thankful for another day and telling myself affirmations, so I can start the day with a good attitude and surround myself with positive energy. Having a good attitude leads to more motivation into getting what you need to do done. I believed in myself more, and I saw how I was accomplishing a lot more. This led to even more positivity in my life and my craving to reach my full potential. I was more willing to take risks and grab what I want in life. Time management is another huge habit to have when it comes to being successful. Being able to plan the day and have a timeframe to do tasks is a huge help in becoming successful. It allows for you to check things off one by one and can keep you in line. Other things like good rest, educating yourself on being better in what you are trying to accomplish, and patience is also a key into reaching goals and having success in your life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Airbnb business I am apart of is different in the fact that we are also a business that allows other people have the option to work with us in being successful in doing their own Airbnb with our mentoring, partnership and management services. There was a lot of challenges that I faced, but having a good support system and resilience helped overcome anything that I came across.

Growing up, I have always liked to draw, paint and was always finding myself enjoying something in the arts. I had went to school for sometime for graphic design and learned how to create commercial art. When I was brought onto the business, I was able to express this skill and show some of the things I learned. Being on the more creative and financial side of the business, I truly enjoy bringing any artistic vision to life for the Airbnb business as well as for other people including myself. Making logos, posters, videos, and other creations is my forte as well as working with numbers. I typically am the one who will work on the graphic design aspect of the business, but I actively put myself in all aspects and where I need to as well as my business partners who are extremely helpful and play huge roles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up in Houston – you got to love the diversity and culture! If a friend comes to visit, I definitely am one to take them to eat at places like Crafty Crab, Turkey Leg Hut, Cool Runnings, Thirteen and many more. I would also show them around the city such as the graffiti walls and discovery green, and we probably would go to the art museums and/or enjoy a sip and paint! Since there is plenty of nightlife, I would introduce my friend to many places like KAMP, Heart, Prospect Park, and Belvedere so I can show them how Houston likes to party! I would also take friends bar hopping on Washington as well, and show them gems like FAO htx. It’s so much to do here in space city – so I’d definitely try to check off as many places as I can.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my best friend Shelby Jackson and my mom. They have been huge supporters and always push me to be my best self. Shelby is my business partner, and asked me to join the business to start Airbnb in which we worked together to reach our goals. She always told me how I can do anything I put my mind to, gives me ideas and helps make sure I stay focused. My mom is also a huge factor in my life. She is the first person to teach me the importance of saying affirmations and bringing in ways to have a positive mindset and to always be thankful for everything. She looks out for me and is definitely a backbone into how I became the person I grew to be today.
