We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Duong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in my business is being my authentic self. It can be difficult because at times there can be pressure to conform to what others in the field are doing. My practice consists of being completely transparent and honest in the treatments that a patient would benefit from. It is also appreciating everyone’s individuality from cultural differences to personal preferences. I never pressure patients into getting a treatment done. I provide education and I allow my patients to decide when and what they are ready for. My approach has served me well, as most patients appreciate the honesty and they are more comfortable with the treatment process once they understand why they need it. At the end of the day, these treatments are elective and you should only do them for you, not for anyone else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in the aesthetic field in 2018 and it was a scary time as a new graduate nurse practitioner. I wanted to do something different and I wasn’t sure if this path would be the most secure route. Taking that leap of faith had its up and downs, and I questioned things constantly. Looking back, I’m glad I took that chance.

I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way, and humility is an important one. In this industry, it can be hard to admit that there are things you cannot do, and sometimes you feel defeated when you have to turn a patient away. Especially, from a business point of view, you never turn away a chance to make money. I’ve learned over time that it is okay to say no and I’ve actually gotten more respect for my honesty. This field is constantly evolving

Being ethical is very important to me and my practice, and I believe all my patients know that. I want the world to know that cosmetic treatments can be done in a tasteful way that is natural. I think we get a bad rap at times because of all the overdone work that is out there. Social media makes it harder because people want to see the before and after photos that are drastic. Work that is beautiful and natural are undetectable, and that is my goal with my practice. Everyone is welcome at Premier Aesthetics and for people who have questions or are just curious, consultations are complimentary. Hope to see yall!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Houston is such a diverse city and it has grown so much over the years. Chinatown is definitely on the list to get some good eats and boba. I love how diverse Chinatown has become and that people from all walks of life can come together and enjoy good food. Tan Tan is a must for a late night meal- and of course, Dim Sum for weekend brunch.

I also like venturing out to the city to visit newer spots like PostHTX or Railway Heights. Anywhere with local food vendors and shopping is always fun.

Visiting the Texas Medical Center is also on the itinerary. I worked there for many years so I like driving there to see how much it has changed. It’s pretty cool to show visitors how big our medical center is and I think that’s pretty unique to Houston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents. They left their country to come to the US to give me opportunities that they didn’t have growing up. To think about the choices and sacrifices they had to make to give me a better life is a gift I try not to take for granted. My dad passed away in 2016, so all the success I’ve come across, I owe it all to him.

I believe that a lot of people in my life have played a part into getting me where I am today. I had both of my children while I was completing my master’s degree and it’s true what they say, it really does take a village. Without my family helping me, I don’t think I could have done it. Whether it was my husband, my mom, my in-laws, or friends; they all helped me in some way.

I would also like to give recognition to Charlene Philips and the ladies at Premier Aesthetics. When I started working with them, I had just left a toxic work environment and I was a bit jaded. Then the pandemic happened and things were even more unknown. I’m glad I pushed through and had the help of these wonderful people that constantly were supportive and wanted the best for me. The pandemic was something that changed the world forever, but the series of events that came with it- it felt like the stars aligned. I cherish those pandemic days because I spent time with my children like never before and it gave me an opportunity to give my career a fresh start. I don’t regret anything.
