We had the good fortune of connecting with Valline B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valline, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
People might be unaware of the amount of time it takes to physically make a garment, or knowing when to capture the perfect moment.

When I’m making something by hand it goes through multiple stages of consideration and examining. I don’t make fast fashion, and I completely stand against companies that do it. It’s not good for the environment nor is it doing any good for designers that put their all into a piece.

A lot of times I get asked as to why I bring my camera with me everywhere. To be fair it does look cool, but it’s really because I don’t feel like myself without it. I’m always ready to capture the perfect moment and events that not only do I, but others don’t want to forget.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mostly stand out from doing things that people don’t like doing. I’m the one that you can count on to talk to a person you may be scared to approach, or going to that thing you’re scared to go to. I don’t play around when it comes to things I’m passionate about. If it needs to get done, I will do everything in my power to see it through.

A lot of things excite me. I’m a pretty happy person. I’m mostly excited for people to wear my clothes and appreciate it. Makes me proud of the hard work I put in.

I got to where I’m at by putting myself in situations I wasn’t familiar with. It’s the equivalent of seeing if I can sink or swim.
Might seem like a very scary thing to do, but if you’re stuck on an island how will you know your resources if you don’t explore?

I’m going to be brutally honest and say that making your own clothes isn’t very hard at all. Put in the time and dedication then you can do the same.

One take away would be to follow your heart. Yeah it sounds cliche but it’s for real! Doing what you love puts you in this grove that nobody can take from you. Do it for you, and the rest will come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are taking a flight to Chicago or Denver! I frequent those two places and I always have the best time. Denver is for the mountains and being able to align yourself with your artistic side. Chicago would be a city vibe. Shopping, fashion, and getting modern inspiration from the architecture they have.

Definitely check out the small neighborhoods surrounding Chicago. The absolute best food, interactions, and cultures you’ll experience.
Denver is easy, go see the Rocky Mountains and check out some museums for the art everyone creates.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, Loserface in the houseee! Dev, Mike, Alex, Damo, y’all are the best and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We all chipped in on my very first sewing machine. I was able to make my first garment which was patchwork pants. This lead to my spark in designing and making more pieces. I took my personal Supreme shirts, band tees, thrifted shirts and whatever else I liked. Then made something very unique that brought a lot of attention and love!
