We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylen Botts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process in starting my own business was that I wanted to go independent. Second, I wanted to create something with my musical gift to help heal and change the world one song at a time. Finally, I wanted to inspire the next generation of musicians and young entrepreneurs to start their businesses early and change the world!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other businesses is that I stand on the beliefs of creativity and commitment. I am most excited that I can help bring in my expertise and create a unique sound that will help heal people from situations that may have caused hurt, produce and help artists with their ideas to make them come to life, and encourage younger generations to start chasing their future aspirations in their early years. From when I started my business, to now being where I am today, it was a little bit challenging. Throughout the early years of my business, I had to deal with things like changing my open hours from weekdays and weekends to only weekends due to being in school. I overcame this challenge by prioritizing education then music. Also, I experienced the challenge of being unmotivated in regards to my career. The strategy I used to overcome this challenge was look at those who were more experienced in their craft and learn to create my own sound and be unique from other musicians. Overall, being a young and emerging entrepreneur has helped me grow in my musical craft, stay strong in my relationship with God, and learn the business side of the music and entertainment industry. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are to keep learning every day, continue to put God first in everything I do, and stay humble as I grow my business to where it needs to be for the future. I want the world to know that with my brand, I offer quality sound, quality musicianship, seven years of music experience, and promotion for the artist and their music. What I want the world to know about my story is that it takes faith to move mountains.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On Monday, I would first take them to my favorite place, Guitar Center on Westheimer. After that, I would give them a tour of my current living household. Then, later that night, I will take them to eat at one of the best Mexican restaurants in Houston called Pappacitos. On Tuesday, I will take them to visit my family and spend some time with them and catch up. Later that day, I will show them around downtown Houston and different murals and sceneries. That night, I’ll take my best friend to a fancy restaurant called Steak 48 downtown. Then, for the rest of the week, we’ll spend time at my place, watch some movies, and make music in the home studio. That weekend on a Friday evening, I’ll take my best friend to see my old high school and places I used to live at and tell them about my family’s history. I’ll take them out on Saturday morning to eat breakfast at Toasted Yolk. That place is one of the best places to have breakfast and brunch, seriously! Then later that day, I will gather a bunch of other friends and let them meet my best friend, and we all hang out at my place or go to the movies at Cinemark or an AMC location. Those two are the best movie places. Then on Sunday, I will take them to church with me and show them how these churches I work alongside and was hired by (Currently: House of Prayer and Life, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and The Brook Place Houston) cooperate with my business and how I make my bank (money) and blessing happen!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my one and personal Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ. I also want to shout out to my parents (Jennifer Smith and JenniferMedia Group and Davion Botts and Bottzworld Studios) because they pushed and encouraged me to start my own business like them. I want to recognize my mentor Kevin Boudreaux (The Power to B Foundation). I also want to acknowledge my family and friends who have shown support, and they know who they are! I am grateful to anyone who has ever supported me regarding my business or life achievements.
