We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Solano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught is to be humble, ask questions, knock on doors and don’t feel discourage if the doors don’t open as quick as you thought they would.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been passionate about makeup; even as a little girl, I remember my mom gave me my first lipstick and how beautiful I felt when I put it on. Makeup is about embracing your natural features and how good it feels to take care of yourself.
It wasn’t easy for me to start this business because where I am from, we do not have many opportunities, especially in the makeup world. However, when I came to this country and started my carrier, I knew I had to look for opportunities and knock on as many doors as possible, even with my big Latina accent.
I’m a very introverted person, and that didn’t stop me from my goal of becoming a makeup artist. I think the key is to take risks even if you feel you are not prepared… You will never be prepared.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am new in Houston but one of my favorite places to eat real and good Mexican food is Ambriza Mexican Kitchen and Refugee in The Woodlands.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband! He was the person who encourage me to start this business and to get my esthetician license. He deserves a big recognition!
