We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Stubblefield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking plays a major role in my life and career. I began my career working for the federal government but found my joy and passion while volunteering for a local nonprofit that I went on to work at for a decade. Making the leap and changing paths has always served me. It’s very difficult to learn new things when fear encourages you to stay “in your lane.” My years at a nonprofit agency gifted me with the tools and skills to adapt and learn new things. This invaluable flexibility gave me the push leap again into the private sector, where I’m now working behind the scenes managing a content development team for a life sciences and research based media company. People often say there’s no reward without risk, and I completely agree. You never know what the future holds if you’re willing to show up and take a chance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Over the course of my career, I’ve followed three major paths. I began my career working for the United States Senate and shifted to the nonprofit sector where I managed agency operations and communications for a decade. Recently, I’ve made the move to managing media operations for a life sciences media and research firm. Change is rarely easy, but it is often worth the struggle. Challenge fosters the space to learn, grow, and adapt. I’m inspired by the opportunity to innovate, and every step of my path has been motivated by the opportunity to drive innovation or learn a new skill. In addition to learning to be brave and trust myself, I’ve also learned that there’s always possibility in failure – a chance to learn, change perspective, grow a skill, or shift direction. Last year, I was inspired to begin graduate school working towards an M.S. in psychology with the goal of eventually going into the field of psychometrics. The most important values I try to honor is to always keep learning and to never fear trying new things or aiming for big goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Houston but left the city for 16 years. I’ve been back since 2020, and I am absolutely LOVING getting to know my hometown again. One perk about Houston is that there’s no lack of new and interesting things to do or places to explore. I adore walking or biking Buffalo Bayou Park – Houston really maximizes the use of greenspaces within the city. For foodies – it’s hard to beat Houston! I have a never-ending list of places to try. My current favorites are Chivos, Better Luck Tomorrow, and Loro.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Megan O’Brien Fuentes who has been a friend, confidant, and advisor to me for almost 20 years. Having the encouragement of a supportive friend who is also paving her own path to build a successful career has been an absolute joy and invaluable resource.
