We had the good fortune of connecting with Joffre Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joffre, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been in the customer service business for many years. Previously I worked as a waiter, valet parking, and delivery for various companies, Uber, Lyft, and even construction. All those jobs were always in the customer service industry, so the transition to photography was pretty straightforward. At a technical level, I needed to gain knowledge of photography; however, I had an enormous desire to learn. That has always been my coin and has helped me grow personally and professionally. After a slight period of study and research, I bought my first camera and, without any clients or experience, began my photographic adventure with great enthusiasm and faith in myself. Initially, I had low economic expectations; I just wanted to get to the end of the month and be able to cover my expenses. I had to launch myself into the market. Since starting something new, I began offering free services to build a portfolio of work to introduce myself to potential clients. In my mind, there was always the idea of creating a business from scratch, taking care of it, and making it grow until it would become a reliable source of joy and income that I could practice under my own rules and times.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a photographer is a mix between art and science. Technique and talent go hand in hand with creativity. Much photography I do requires attention to detail, reasonable composition, lighting, and framing, but above all, many photos. The most memorable thing is ensuring clients cannot decide between the pictures because they like them all. I want to think I am a good photographer; I try not to compare my work with anyone, but I enjoy looking at other photographers’ work and learning from them. My curiosity to do various types of photography, models, weddings, events, products, and real estate makes me different. It is usually uncommon, but lately, more and more photographers have opted for this modality to expand their market possibilities.

One of the things that I enjoy the most about my work is collaborating with other photographers or offering my work for free to friends and family. I invest my time whenever possible, like in a hobby, and the results are long-lasting; a photo is a way to travel back in time to the past, and you can always use the following picture in your ever-growing portfolio.

To get somewhere, you always have to take the first step; it’s never easy, but you have to do it without overthinking what will happen next; live one day at a time and see what happens.

It has been challenging, especially keeping up with the latest equipment, lenses, accessories, gimbals, drone licenses, etc., but success always arrives when there is a desire to strive for it. In the face of adversity, you must remember that God, family, and friends are always by your side to lend a hand when needed.

From my experience, the lesson I would like the audience to take away is to believe in yourself, even if no one else does.

When you need a photo to help boost your business or brand or just for fun, remember that it is better to have a professional photographer nearby. There are moments in life that are priceless, invest in yourself and your brand wisely, and hire a professional photographer today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
On Monday, to Galveston. In summer, Bolivar Peninsula is fun and refreshing; taking the ferry to the other side and completing the evening at the shore of the beach with a bonfire in one of the many beautiful places there are in the area.

Take a tour around Galveston’s wonderful colonial places and homes on Tuesday. Making strategic stops at restaurants by the boulevard, there is not an experience quite similar for relaxing and enjoying free time than this. There are so many good places to eat that I would be tempted to spend the whole week there, but Houston has many more places to see.

On Wednesday, we are going to NASA, one of Houston’s most emblematic places and a must-visit by tradition. It is good to arrive in the morning to be able to explore the entire immensity of the route and to be able to sign up for the guided tours.

On Thursday, downtown. A visit to Discovery Park in the heart of downtown, a walk through the Minute Maid to enjoy a game of the Houston Astros, the current world champions, and of course, a visit to one of the many fine food restaurants in the area. I would conclude the visit to the downtown with a night walk through the main street or a visit to the theater district to witness an opera performance, a symphony orchestra, or, why not, the house of blues that offers extraordinary events with international artists of different genres.

Friday is to visit the museum district, Herman Park with its beautiful gardens and lakes, and the zoo, and have lunch or dinner at the excellent Texan-style steakhouses in the area, or why not Thai or Indian food? The end of the day is definitely in one of the nightclubs that offer incredible drinks and a pleasant time to relax with music and a youthful atmosphere.

Saturday is a day to explore. The bayou bike tour on the memorial drive and the different parks within. The end of the day in the Galleria Mall area with a visit to its many attractions.

After visiting some of Houston’s emblematic churches, Sunday is a day to rest, a boat ride on lake Conroe and camp in the open air at the famous retreat sites that abound in the surrounding area.

Happy week

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must thank many people, especially those who have anonymously clicked, sent an email, or called a friend to recommend my services. Much of the work I do every day is for these people. However, I also thank several other companies that have allowed me to improve my talent and my income, the list is long, so I will try to be brief.

First of all, God and my family for being my guide and my support in this photographic adventure, one of my first ListerPros clients by the hand of Jordan Nielsen. A very special thank you since, for many years, I have considered it my primary source of income for the Opendoor Houston team and especially to Steven Rosas and the entire group of project managers.

BOOM! in Italy for believing in me and allowing me to prove my talent through the many completed jobs.

To my girls from Square foot photography in Austin (Alex, Sydney, Joy, Carolina, Erica.), with whom I have come to develop my professional image to the next level. Their passion for details and appreciation for the quality of service has been of great help to increasing my professional development.

To Jean Paul Toshiro, a photographer whom I have learned to respect and from whom I have learned a great deal, the work we have done together has been more fun than work.

To the beautiful Airbnb team, with whom I have established a successful working relationship and with whom I am proud of the work and appreciation I receive in each of my sessions with their clients.

To the incredible Padsplit team and all the working groups I have come to share with, especially Frank Furman, who reached out to me at a significant moment, I can never thank you enough.

Lastly, the entire Doorvest team and Andrew Luong thank you for allowing me to collaborate in your development and to accompany you for so long.
