Probably the most difficult decision I’ve had to make was choosing to be in the arts. Growing up as an Asian American I was always taught that being in a field with stability is the only option and anything else besides that was a waste of time. I was never a very good student but being creative was something I could always depend on. having an understanding of my parent’s experience as immigrants and knowing their hardships made choosing my path very stressful. I have several quotes and affirmations that I love to keep me motivated. This particular inspirational quote is my favorite. “Courage doesn’t always roar. It’s a reminder that whether it be life, health, fitness, wellness, finances, or overall happiness, focusing on the small things can create broad strides in success. My love for this quote is two-fold. It reminds me of one of my why. My father and mother sacrificed a lot to ensure my siblings and I were raised in a healthy home, had a good education, and were properly cared for – their life story reminds me that I can do anything, even the little things. My favorite affirmation is “Do what makes you happy”! When I first seen it, I instantly changed the lower case “you” to all caps, to truly emphasize the importance of living your life the best way YOU see fit and not for anyone else. Regardless of who it may be. To me, the affirmation simply means doing what feeds your soul because at the end of the day whatever decision you make you will be the one living through it, not the person that made suggestions and/or wanted you to go their route.
