“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pele One of my favorite quotes is from the Brazilian football player, Pele. Nothing worthwhile can be gained without hard work and dedication. What we dedicate in life will return to us. Be consistent in what you do, be curious about everything around you, keep learning every day, keep informed and keep studying, knowledge is power. We are all self-made. Read more>>

My favorite affirmation is “You are more than enough!” I was always great at most things I put my mind to and then as I got older, comparison became a habit that I picked up. Whether it was why I was always second choice in romantic situation-ships, under someone else, or getting turned down by a number of career opportunities, I had to develop a great habit to replace it. I began to recite these words over and over again once I realized that I will always be enough for the right person, right job, and most importantly, to God. It gives me the confidence to always feel like Superwoman when the inevitable feeling of rejection comes around. Read more>>

Yes! “The difference between Ordinary and Extraordinary is a little Extra” I love this quote for a few reasons, As a former educator, I love the play on words. If you add “extra” to ordinary you get extraordinary. I had this quote hanging in my classroom every year I taught middle school math. It helped remind my students to put in a little extra and be the best version of You. When my sisters and I decided to start Busy Beauties, I asked to put this quote on the inside of every box we shipped. We planned on changing up the quote every few months, but it has stuck and has now become the motto of our company. Read more>>

My favorite quote comes from Vincent Van Gogh: “It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.” I think it reflects the need to have various loves in your life: a mix of people and opportunities that aren’t all limited to your immediate industry. That way you can recharge your spirits elsewhere, and then return to the work that needs to be done, and give it the best of yourself. Read more>>

The entire essay of “Self-Reliance” from Emerson particularly sticks out to me. Part of the essay highlighted the notion that “success” can mean anything, but that it particularly falls upon whoever wishes to define it, within the realm of their own personal existence, and no one else’s. I’m probably butchering that aspect of it, but in a strange and abstract way, that is the point. It is up to us to decide how we will live, just as it is up to us to decide what “success” truly means in our realities. It’s not Walt Disney’s version of success, and neither is it Elon Musk’s. From the movie. “Little Big Man”….”sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn’t”. With the exception of chairs, everything I do is a one off, a prototype, a first attempt at getting everything right. On the rare occasion that I get to do something twice, I do it differently to learn more for next time. The quote has always given me a little breathing room. “It takes the time it takes.” We live in a time when people can watch almost anything being built in a half hour, hour, or six episode time frame. I encourage clients to visit the process in real time. I have found this to be the path to repeat clients. Read more>>

Sumbul Ali-Karamali | Author and speaker on Islam-related topics

Trying to explain Islam and Muslims in this country can be a depressing job. Some of my experiences have been upliftingly rewarding, such as when a reader of my books attributes an epiphany to my writing. But often, my explanations — though academically standard and right in line with what you might learn in an Islamic studies class in college — crash like breakers against the rocky shores of normalized negative perceptions and tall tales about Islam. Too many of us humans are not willing or able to rethink our worldviews. Read more>>

“Why be good when you can be remarkable?” – Dana Hewling Inspired by a college professor, we use this as our company tagline, and it fuels much of what I do each day. I learned very early on that there are a lot of brilliant, talented, and creative people in the world. Many of those talented people will go on to produce a lot of good work, and if I wanted to stand out, I had to do better than good, I had to be remarkable. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word “remarkable” as “worthy of being or likely to be noticed, especially as being uncommon or extraordinary.” Read more>>

“Where there’s a will, there’s a way” This quote has always been a phrase that reminded me to push through and never give up on my goals and dreams. It wasn’t until I began my journey to following my dreams of opening a business that this quote no longer held the same weight it once had. See I learned that the will I had for my life was not anything compared to the will God had for my life. Once I learned that and let go of my desires, I was filled with the will that God had for my life which was so much better then what I thought I wanted for myself! Read more>>
