We had the good fortune of connecting with J’nee Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J’nee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to give women the space and opportunity to find confidence within themselves, for themselves. It also helped me rebuild my confidence, when I was at a low point in my life. When I noticed that encouraging others was encouraging me, I knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My classes are all about empowering, uplifting, and celebrating everything that is woman. No matter the color, size, or dance ability, everyone is welcomed!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of the success stories from the people who attend my classes. Some start off just doing it for fun, while others are really trying to perfect their craft. But each person is there to build confidence within themselves. I’ve been dancing since I was 4yrs old. It’s in my blood lol. I’ve always known that I wanted to teach dance, but didn’t know or understand the magnitude of which I would be able to do that. It took a minute for me to realize that dance is my happy place and definitely was not easy, but worth every trial and tribulations I’ve been through. There were many times when I got discouraged, and wanted to give up. But my clients kept me going. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are to always be authentic and true to who you are. Not everyone will like what you put out into the world, and that is perfectly okay. Continue to do it for YOU and the people who do appreciate your craft or skill. The one thing I want the world to know about Strut With J’nee is that everything we do, we do it with confidence. I could care less about someone coming to my class and retaining all of the choreo, What I care most about is that you have fun and you feel more confident when you leave, than you did when you came in.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love food, so so many restaurants will be on the list. From Breakfast Klub, Turkey Leg Hut, A’Bouzy, Gloria’s, and Pappadeaux there are so nay choices to choose from. Each restaurant gives different vibes and the drinks are amazing. The LockerRoom would be a bar we would visit to dance and have fun. Bison Art Galleria would come in handy when we want to be inspired by black artists and photographers. Vino and Vinyl when I wanna drink and listen to some old school music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to anyone who has attended any of my classes. I wouldn’t be where I am today, if it wasn’t for the men and women who continue to come to my classes every week. Their dedication and commitment is what keeps me going.
