We had the good fortune of connecting with Alondria Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alondria, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The social impact of being a floral designer helps the world because there will always be times of celebration. The major components of events from the joyous birth of a new baby to the celebration of life are remembered and honored surrounding flowers. Flowers are universal and memorable. The beauty of floral design and decor makes the world beautiful, enjoyable, and timeless, and continues to evolve decade after decade.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want to emphasize that what sets me apart is my passion for being a floral artist. My passion for the industry has never died and I truly believe if you have passion, you can grow and expand. For me, the two most important aspects of my business are providing excellent customer service and delivering high-quality products. Achieving these two goals helps to build trust in my brand, satisfies customers, and fosters ongoing support for my business. My greatest strength lies in my visionary skills and my ability to understand and flawlessly execute my client’s vision. Many of my clients have told me, “That’s exactly what I envisioned!”

However, the road to where I am today has not been easy. In 2007, the building where I operated my floral business, was set on fire, causing me to lose everything. Thankfully, I had left the building just before the fire started, a fortunate circumstance that I attribute to the divine intervention of the Lord. Despite this devastating loss, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I relocated to the Downtown Houston area on Main Street, which significantly elevated my business to another level. I believe that my business has been sustained all these years through the grace of God. I feel truly blessed that the work of my hands has been blessed by God.

I want the world to know that my brand and story are centered around my love for serving people. I believe that building relationships is crucial in the people-facing industry that I am in. I have formed strong relationships by designing weddings for friends, family members, and clients, as well as decorating their homes and businesses. I have learned that while delivering a quality product is important, it is the personal connections and the emotions evoked that truly leave a lasting impression. It has been an immense honor for me to connect with my clients during some of the most important events in their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is renowned for its delightful cuisine and diverse culture. Our first stop is “The Breakfast Klub” in Downtown Houston for an exceptional breakfast experience. Following that, we’ll catch a movie at the Reel Luxury Cinemas in The Woodlands at Market Street and take a stroll to get some steps in.

We could also drop by Crave Cupcakes in The Woodlands for a delectable treat. For an elegant dining experience, Mastro’s Steakhouse, in the Galleria area is a fantastic choice. Additionally, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park is a truly beautiful destination. Standing in the Waterwall’s mist and being enveloped by the gentle roar of cascading water is one of the city’s most memorable experiences. Walking along the lush canopy of towering live oak trees in the heart of one of the nation’s largest business districts is truly inspiring. Lastly, a visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science offers a fascinating insight into various worlds and houses a diverse range of exhibitions across 4 floors, a souvenir shop, and the George Observatory for stargazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mentor, Mildred Davis, who I called…”The Mrs. Davis,” was my mentor who then was in the floral industry for over 30 years. She taught me the mechanics and the techniques of the industry. I watched her closely and gleaned from her expertise. I will always be grateful for her mentorship. When she was alive, she would always tell me that she was proud of the florist I’d become. In return, I would tell if there was no her, there would be no me. I will never forget her.

My friend and mentor, Loretta Herpin of Loretta’s Floral Design taught me the importance of integrity as a businesswoman. She challenged me in areas that I lacked and I love her for that. I am changed forever because of her mentorship.

Anne Davis, who is a seasoned and talented floral designer, welcomed me into the creative part of her business. She taught me my worth as a floral designer and still today shares with me her invaluable expertise.

My cousins, The Richardson’s of Richardson’s Florist were a blessing to me. They allowed me to work in the back of their business creating my floral designs at the start of my business.

Lastly, my family who is always there when I need a helping hand. Thank you!

They all believed in my business, encouraged me, and have been my biggest supporters!
