We had the good fortune of connecting with Arquelle Gilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arquelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So basically I started my first semester of college in 2014 right after high school and after one semester had to drop out due to not getting any financial aide. working in fast food and retail really gave me an eye opening experience that this isn’t what I wanted to become for the rest of my life. Working for someone else, never being able to get ahead, and working pay check to paycheck. I was miserable all the time and missing every life event. I was finally able to return to school for 2 years and my financial aide failed yet again so I said my degree was entrepreneurship why not get into a career where you can be your own boss plus I love homes. And that’s where I landed on real estate and its been a journey ever since.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So I started off as a realtor here in Beaumont, Tx almost 5 years ago. It was definitely a rocky start for me but I continued to pray and trust God in the process and things definitely started to pick up for me during the 2nd year. I did have to overcome the feelings of imposter syndrome and not feeling like I could really do this but I picked myself up and started to make things happen. I learned along the way that things wont always be the way you want it and sometimes God will come and humbly slow you down when you begin to feel like life is more important than him and yourself. Though I may not be where I want to be today, I know where I want to go and I pray God continues to bless me during this Journey. I have already began expanding my business to parts of Houston and look forward to becoming a Real Estate Investor/Developer in the near future. I pride myself on working hard for my clients, giving exceptional service, and giving them an all around great experience. To do this I also am very serious on who I do business with ie. (Mortgage Lenders, Insurance, etc) so that way all my partners can be a replication of who I am and give the best products to help everyone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite Food is tacos so locally I would take them to Taco La Bamba here in Beaumont and we would definitely have to hit up Torchy’s Tacos in Houston. I also enjoy going to Dave’s Hot Chicken and Taste of Nigeria. For Brunch we can go to snooze and for dinner I enjoy trying new things and it seems Houston has an endless supply of food options so we would usually gather a list of some places with good reviews and go wherever the car takes me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No one in particular but I would definitely like to dedicate this to my close friends and family for all their support and encouragement through my tough and great times. You guys have definitely been a pillar in my life.
