We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Kiefer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ken, what makes you happy? Why?
Coming up with a vision that we can work to create underwater images always makes me extremely happy. Using just the seed of an idea and pursuing the logistics and all the moving parts is very satisfying artistically.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are always interested in Anything Underwater. We love to do everything from portraits and sports underwater to creating visuals of underwater predators. We have worked with models in close proximity to underwater predators and are adept at working with the challenges of the underwater environment and its inherent risks and variability. I’m most proud of my adaptability. Any time you are dealing with Mother Nature in general, and especially being in the water with wild animals you will have weather, visibility, sun, cloud, rain, wind issues that you have zero control over. Being able to alter the vision and still create stunning visuals is a great source of pride. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Have to hit several Tex-Mex spots for sure. We enjoy Abuelas and Chuys down near us in League City Probably check out an Astros game and head to the beach on a nice dayThe Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This Shoutout has to be dedicated first and foremost to my wife Kimber. Besides being an integral part of many of the visions that we create; Kimber is invaluable as so many things. She is a sounding board, editor, director, trainer and so much more. We have an amazing synergy when working on anything involving underwater images. A ton of credit also has to go to our wonderful sponsors of Ikelite, Sherwood Scuba, Akona and Genesis. Being part of their team has become like a family as far as their willingness to work with us and help us in any way possible.
