We had the good fortune of connecting with Aylissa Suarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aylissa, how do you think about risk?
Risk is something we all come across everyday in life, sometimes there may be bigger risk than others. Risk played a huge role in my career. I was in my prior career for 10years when I turned 28 I took the risk to change careers when I no longer felt full filled in my prior career. I was in the medical field with a 9-5 Mondays-Friday position and health benefits but no space to grow without getting a better degree. I chose to leave to become a Hairstylist with a more demanding schedule no benefits but an endless path for growth. I have been a hairstylist for the past 5 years and now I make more money, I work Tuesday-Saturday with rotating Wednesday and I have a private health insurance. So that risk I took may have been nerve wrecking but with the time I’ve put into my new career I have so much more than my prior career and still so much more potential for even more growth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a self driven person who can’t sit still. I am able to communicate and connect with very different people and personalities. I am excited to finish my Associates in Business degree, which has given me tools to help work with other people in ways that are suitable for them. It was not easy by any means to get where I am today. I had to work full time while attending school fulltime and also worked two jobs the first year of my career to continue to contribute my financial part to my family. I put my job first and made sure I was there at all times necessary! I devoted myself to any training I could get to educate myself even more. One thing I learned was if you put the work and follow the direction of the path you created for your self your growth is unmeasurable. I want to be known for the work I do behind the scenes. Training our new stylist making sure the salon stays profitable and treating clients as people and not just a number!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to my husband and 3 kids for believing in me and rooting for me to succeed. I also like to thank Christina and Tim owners of Bonjour Belle Salon for seeing the potential in me right out of school and guiding me to keep growing with their mentorship!
