We had the good fortune of connecting with Badra Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Badra, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Growing up in the historic city of Nazareth and later the vibrant coastal town of Haifa, my journey began with rich cultural roots. At the age of fourteen, my family embarked on a life-changing move to the United States, bringing traditions, values, and a sense of togetherness. As the eldest of four siblings, I often found myself stepping into a leadership role, helping my hardworking parents by caring for my younger siblings, managing household chores, and preparing meals. These experiences weren’t just duties; they were invaluable lessons that shaped my character. I learned the importance of discipline, time management, empathy, and the spirit of helping others from an early age.
These qualities, deeply ingrained in me, have proven to be essential in running a business, particularly in the dynamic and demanding hospitality industry, where nurturing relationships, maintaining order, and showing genuine care are at the heart of success.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity: The Bougainvilleas’ Journey Through COVID-19
Like many businesses in Houston and its surrounding areas, The Bougainvilleas Events & Catering faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sudden closure of our doors was a difficult reality, filled with uncertainty. Events were canceled, weddings postponed, and our team faced the heartbreaking task of rescheduling couples who had spent months planning their special days.
But in the face of adversity, we chose to persevere.
Under the leadership of owner Badra Andrews, The Bougainvilleas pivoted, finding creative ways to keep the business afloat while supporting our valued employees and the community we love. Determined to stay connected to our clients and staff, we launched initiatives that not only helped sustain us but also made a meaningful impact.
A Community-Focused Pivot
To maintain operations and give back during these challenging times, we introduced weekly “to-go” meal menus, offering a taste of our exquisite catering directly to homes. But we didn’t stop there. Understanding the gravity of the situation in our community, we initiated a sponsorship fundraiser to provide meals for the brave frontline workers who were tirelessly battling the pandemic.
This act of giving not only supported our business but also strengthened our bond with the Houston community. It’s this spirit of resilience, care, and creative problem-solving that defines The Bougainvilleas.
The Bougainvilleas mission is to believe in ourselves and our community, and always strive to do more than expected.
“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s difficult to dedicate my story to just one individual because so many have played vital roles in shaping who I am today. Above all, I am deeply grateful to God, who has been the ultimate guide on this journey. I firmly believe that every experience—whether joyful or challenging—is a divine lesson meant to mold us, nurturing our spiritual growth and fortifying us to face life’s inevitable trials with resilience and grace.
My parents also hold a special place in my heart for their immense sacrifices. They left behind the familiarity of home, culture, and family to carve out a path that offered us a brighter future. My father’s unwavering support has been especially significant, providing me with a deep well of wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. He instilled in me the courage to face life’s uncertainties, and his example continues to inspire me every day.
I consider myself incredibly blessed, particularly when I reflect on the journey of starting anew in Texas, a place where we knew no one. It could have been an isolating experience, but instead, it was filled with unexpected kindness, guidance, and a sense of community. This chapter of my life has reaffirmed my belief that we’re all part of an interconnected web, where our actions, however small, have the power to uplift, support, and inspire others.
My husband and children deserve my deepest appreciation as well. Owning a small business often means long hours, demanding work, and the constant challenge of balancing professional and personal life. Despite these hurdles, my husband has been my rock—steadily holding our family together, stepping in wherever needed, and ensuring that our children always feel loved and cared for. His unwavering dedication and boundless love have not only sustained us but have also reminded me daily of the beauty of partnership and the strength that comes from facing life’s journey hand in hand. I am eternally grateful for the love and resilience that binds us as a family.
