We had the good fortune of connecting with Beauté Harleaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beauté, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made was leaving my corporate healthcare finance career to pursue my passion full-time at Unconscious Beauté Studio. Transitioning from a stable position to building my own business was challenging, especially with the uncertainties and risks involved. However, I knew that dedicating myself to creating a space focused on beauty, empowerment, and specialized care was the right path for me. It was a tough decision, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see my vision come to life and to make a difference in my clients’ lives.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career journey has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. As the founder of Unconscious Beauté Studio, I specialize in providing custom hair care solutions, including cranial prosthesis for clients experiencing medical hair loss, luxury extensions, and natural hair care. Alongside our salon services, I also offer a series of online courses designed to empower and educate others—ranging from general beauty business courses to a specialized course for multiracial families on understanding and caring for Black hair. I’m also proud to offer a customer service course specifically tailored to beauty professionals, helping them build strong, client-centered practices.
What sets my work apart is the commitment to personalized, compassionate care – each service is tailored to help clients feel truly seen, beautiful, and confident, especially those facing sensitive medical conditions. Transitioning from a corporate healthcare finance career to working for myself took a leap of faith, long hours, and overcoming the fears that come with starting something new. Along the way, I’ve learned that resilience and adaptability are key. Staying grounded in my vision while embracing continuous learning has been essential.
I’m proud to have built a space where beauty meets empowerment. My goal is to make a meaningful difference, offering services and educational resources that not only enhance appearance but also restore confidence. For me, Unconscious Beauté Studio is more than a business; it’s a place where clients and students alike can feel empowered, valued, and supported. I want the world to know that my brand is rooted in the belief that beauty goes beyond the surface—it’s about nurturing confidence and understanding from within.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Houston, I’d plan a week filled with some of my favorite spots that showcase the best the city has to offer. Here’s the perfect itinerary:
Day 1: Welcome Brunch & Shopping
• Brunch at Snooze Eatery in the Galleria area to kick things off with amazing breakfast options.
• Shopping at The Galleria, exploring its luxury shops, unique boutiques, and maybe some ice skating.
Day 2: Museum District & Relaxing Dinner
• Spend the day in the Museum District—we’d visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science and The Menil Collection.
• Dinner at The Warwick, one of my favorite spots, where we’d enjoy great food in a lively atmosphere.
Day 3: Heights Food & Art Tour
• Start with breakfast or coffee at a local Heights café.
• Explore local art galleries, murals, and boutiques in the area.
• Grab some lunch at Postino and finish with drinks and small bites at Heights Beer Garden.
Day 4: Spa Day & Rooftop Views
• Begin with a spa day at Trellis Spa at The Houstonian for some relaxation.
• Enjoy evening cocktails with a view at Z on 23 Rooftop downtown.
Day 5: Cultural Exploration & Fine Dining
• Visit Buffalo Bayou Park for a morning walk, followed by a trip to Chinatown or Little India to experience Houston’s diverse culinary scene.
• End with dinner at Bludorn, known for its elevated American cuisine.
Day 6: Brunch & Street Art
• Brunch at Backstreet Café with its beautiful outdoor patio.
• Spend the afternoon exploring Houston’s street art, with murals in EaDo and Sawyer Yards.
Day 7: Beach Day at Galveston
• Drive out to Galveston for a beach day, grabbing fresh seafood on the coast to wrap up a fun week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to several incredible organizations that have been instrumental in my journey. Texas A&M University and Syracuse University provided me with invaluable knowledge and resources through the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans (EBV) Program, which equipped me with essential skills for building and growing my business. I also want to recognize Bunker Labs for their unwavering support and the opportunities they provide to veteran entrepreneurs. Each of these organizations has played a key role in shaping my path, and I’m deeply grateful for their mentorship, resources, and encouragement.
