We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Venable and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Although I loved teaching and working as an administrator in schools, I wanted the opportunity to have flexibility in my schedule and reach people in a different way. My Side By Side Design Texas organizing business and Helping Houston Moms Facebook group allow me to share my knowledge and expertise while helping others through a variety of avenues. When clients hire me, I am able to transform their space, home and systems within just a few hours. My SBSDT social media pages offer free tips and ideas that anyone can apply on their own. The HHM Facebook group is also a way for parents and businesses to connect and spread the word about life, parenting and things to do with families.

I am a learner by nature so I love that I am always learning new things with my current businesses. Like teaching, you never feel like you’re done or you’ve plateaued. Whether I am learning about social media or new ways to help my clients or new places to explore in the city, I love that I continue to grow with those around me. Each day, I am problem solving and helping others improve their day to day life, and I feel so great seeing how I am able to help others!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Side By Side Design Texas is a professional organizing business, and we help families and businesses with their spaces. Our goal is to create systems to help the clients manage and maintain organization and order. In addition, we offer moving services by helping clients get their home ready to list and by offering packing and unpacking services. I am proud of the work we’ve done, and it’s hard work. I believe that one distinguishing factor about my business is my background. I have a teaching degree along with a Master’s in Administration. I have coached teachers, worked with hundreds of students, and worked with lots of ADHD individuals. My education background helps me when working with my clients and sharing my ideas. My goal is not only to transform a space, but I hope to truly teach new systems and ideas so that the learner has the skills to tweak and adjust them on their own. My education didn’t prepare me for running a business or using social media so I’ve worked hard to research, network, and ask for help in creating my brand and growing my business. I hired a business coach, attended seminars, joined local business group events, and hired a virtual assistant. As my business grows, I continue to grow. The biggest piece that I want others to know about me is that I really care about helping others. Whether it’s a personal connection or a relatable experience, I am a busy mom who is just trying to do my best at home and with my business. I am an extrovert energized by people, and I love building relationships with others!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, this is a hard question since I share so many cool places to go and things to do in our amazing city. If I had to be selective, I would say that my go to restaurant for visitors new to Texas is Taste of Texas. I love our Museum District so we would definitely have to swing by a museum, the zoo, Hermann park or even the Miller Outdoor Theater. I love that Houston has lots of hidden parks and trails so it’s always fun to go to Discovery Green, Memorial Park or one of the numerous parks in our great city. My family loves to go to ball games so we would definitely work in an Astros game or a Rockets game if we could make it happen. Aside from our typical go to restaurants, it’s always fun to try a new trendy restaurant as they’re always popping up. One great thing about Houston is that you can usually find a new hot spot or place to go if you’re looking for a variety.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, I am so grateful to my friends and to the moms of Houston. When I started Helping Houston Moms, it was called Kid Fun Houston. At that time, I didn’t know that I was starting a business; I thought that I was creating a resource for my mom friends and for myself. My friends saw the value in what I was doing and shared the group with their friends. The snowball effect is what made Kid Fun Houston grow quickly which led me to realize that there was a need for a mom resource. As moms, we work hard to enrich the lives of our little ones. Houston is such an amazing city with countless adventures and experiences to offer our children. With that being said, it can be overwhelming and hard to know just all that’s available to us. I love being able to create a community where moms can come together and connect as well.

When I started the group in 2013, I knew that I wanted to learn more about “things to do with kids in Houston”. I was so surprised with the countless opportunities as were the fellow moms around me. Within a few years, the group grew to over 44,000 people. Kid Fun Houston became what it was through the connections on Facebook. This is where I learned the power of social media and word of mouth!

Currently, Kid Fun Houston is now Helping Houston Moms. I rebranded the group in order to offer more than things to do with kids, and I wanted to help families in a larger capacity which includes parenting and home tips as well. Not only am I able to reach families through this group, I also run a professional organizing business. Like the group, I am able to make connections and work with clients as a result of my social media pages.
