We had the good fortune of connecting with Bjanca Prudhomme and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bjanca, how do you think about risk?
I know everything in life worth achieving has some degree of risk. The question I always ask myself is whether the reward outweighs the risk. And what is worse-case scenario? I think complacency for me is always worse-case scenario. I am pretty good at talking myself out of anything easy! I feel most successful when I step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. A lot of that stems from fear of complacency and my willingness to take risks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sure! I am Certified Personal Trainer & Health Coach. In 2019, I decided to start my own fitness business after I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Prior to that I worked for a corporate media company. I have always been a health and fitness nut, but I realized during my breast cancer treatment and recovery that my calling in life was to help others with their health and fitness goals. Health is something we tend to take for granted. Having been through a life-threatening health scare, I see life through a different lens now; And I want to use that perspective to help women, especially other moms! We do so much for our family that we often forget to take care of ourselves. I love helping women build strength and confidence, and also educate others on how to live a healthy, clean lifestyle. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that health is not cookie cutter. Everyone’s body is different, and it’s important not to compare yourself with others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the options Houston has to offer for visitors! If it’s Rodeo season, we are definitely hitting up Houston Rodeo! Galveston is a fun day trip, and we would also plan an Astros game. We would spend another day exploring Memorial Park and Buffalo Buyou. I live near Rice Village, so we’d spend a day shopping and end up on the patio of Hungry’s for happy hour cocktails! A couple of my favorite restaurants for dining and live music are The Rustic and Armadillo Palace. Both on the itinerary when I have guests in town. And I love the Texas countryside! I would take a roadtrip to one of the smaller towns outside of Houston. And lastly, Houston is known for its many breweries! St. Arnolds, Karbach, and Buffalo Bayou all top my favorites list of places to hang out with my besties!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents for their entrepreneurial spirit! My parents were self-employed for the latter part of my childhood, and they always encouraged my sister and me to follow in their footsteps. It took me 20 years and about a million steps to get here, but I can finally say I made it! I also give thanks to my husband who is very supportive! He is my biggest fan, and he allows me to have the autonomy I need in order to grow.
