We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby McMorris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2001′ I went to my first play, “God Don’t Like Ugly” by Carlton Hamilton, while visiting LA. I still remember the feeling because that is when the theatre bug hit me. I was like a kid in a candy store as I couldn’t sit still in my seat, I can recall being so excited that I purchased as much merchadise as possible to hold on to this awesome experience. I lived in the moment and didn’t want to ever lose that feeling. I wanted to go into the theatre business and said to myself, “I can do this, I will do this”, and I’ve been writing every since! After delving into different careers, I’m thankful to have found my true passion!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Playwright from San Antonio, my work focuses on contemporary urban drama underpinned with humor and moral values. I’ve written (22) stage plays and produced over (150) shows. The plots I write about are centered around family, love & money which all communities can relate.

My mission is set on delivering faith based messages which provokes change and prevent disaster. I’m most proud about not losing site of why I started writing. Because of this, our productions have a great impact in the community and leaves people with hope.

Of course building a brand and making a name for yourself is never easy. Through the years, me and my team had to overcome many challenges but this would have difficult if we didn’t believe in ourselves and our mission. I would want the world to know, that I believe in living life with a purpose because we all have a story to tell, and I must tell it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In San Antonio, one can never go wrong with hanging out at the Riverwalk. It’s the #1 visited attraction in Texas. There’s plenty of resturants to choose from. Mexican food is one of my favorites so I’m sure we would hit that up. Maybe also take a trip to the Pearl District with has a really cool vibe, a nice Jazz spot to listen to live music and more eateries. It’s always a fun time when hanging out with Bobby.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my mother because she has always been very instrumental in my life. She’s the main person who encouraged me when I wanted to give up on writing. Her words would always uplift me and help me continue on. She believed in me, pressed me to have faith, and never give up on my dreams.

My mother transitioned in 2009 to a better place but her kind spirit is ever so present. I remember the times when she’d never miss any of my shows no matter how far away it was. On some shows it was as little as 4 people in the audience but one thing was for sure, I knew I could always count on her being there.
