We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Hanc and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have worked for other dog training businesses before but they were focused on very basic pet training. I wanted to get more into serious work like service dog training & sport dog foundations. I have 6 sport dogs & 1 service dog & I found it so much more interesting and fun to work with. Of course I still take basic obedience & pet dog clients, but a lot of those clients end up progressing to some type of sport foundation, which I love to see! It’s important to me that people do more with their dog.

What should our readers know about your business?
There’s tons of dog trainers in the Houston area! What sets me apart is my ability to work on more advanced skills like competition obedience, service dog training & foundations that can be used both by pet dogs & sport dogs!
Luckily, I had a lot of support in starting my own business. So many clients I had previously worked with saw my post about branching off on my own & spread the word about me. I am so thankful to have not had many set backs. The main con of working for yourself in a field like dog training would have to be the slow periods that naturally come with the changes in the economy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love food. Although a chain, Benihana is great place to eat & socialize! I definitely find the Rodeo & the Fort Bend County Fair a staple. Everybody in Houston should go once!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents were the main ones encouraging me to start my own business. My mother has been running my father’s own business for over 10 years, and she had just retired & was looking for something fun to do. I owe all my success and motivation to them.
