We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Davila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This is a loaded question, but I’m going to answer the best way I know how. If it’s toxic, let it go. Nothing worth while comes easy, and giving up with always sound like the most reasonable thing to do, but I’m here to encourage to keep going. One of the most common reasons of failure is the habit of giving up and quitting. Patience is produced in trials. Endurance is developed in the struggle. Building requires a “nevertheless” mentality. I once heard a story about a man who was digging for gold. Long story short, this man dug and dug and dug, and finally said I’ll never hit gold. Someone gets word that there is gold in that area, and he starts digging and 3 feet from where the other man stopped digging was gold. We are all 3 feet from success. Failure isn’t final, but it is necessary. Giving up is easy. Staying in the fight, takes something. A “nevertheless” mentality says, no matter what, I’ll keep going. Even if I have to walk alone, I’m going to keep going. No matter how many blows I take, I’ll keep getting back up. It’s in the middle of keep going and giving up where you find what you are made up and who you are. I’ve been in the middle before, and I’ve decided that I’d rather dig until I have no more strength than to quit and be 3 feet from gold.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Pastor, and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ is what I do aside from being a teacher. The Bible says that we are many members, but one body. Therefore, we all operate in different ways, but we work together to edify the body of Christ. If I could describe how I operate as a member of this body, it would be the bullet that’s locked and loaded. I am radical and I don’t mind telling the truth. I have found that truth is what sets people free. I value the truth and I always want those who are following me to hear truth. Truth breaks down barriers all the while building on a foundation that is based on truth. The Bible speaks about how we will endure suffering, but nothing will compare to the glory we will experience. So is it easy? No. Can it be exhausting to believe? Yes. As a believer, it is promised that we are overcomers by the blood of the lamb and every word of our testimony. I’m built to overcome. I’m built to win. That’s who God created us to be. As a little girl, I would wake my parents up and ask them to take me church. I would sit in the big church all by myself. I knew as a young girl I was called. Did I always cultivate the calling? No. I had to walk through challenges, and am continuing to walk through challenges, but the word reassures me where I stand and that is on the side of victory! I’ve learned throughout my journey with Christ that life is real and it’s not a game. This isn’t a pass go and collect $200. Life is but a vapor, and I’ve learned to appreciate the life God has given me. I’ve learned that a decision had to be made. I could either step into ALL that God had for me or continue to think it’s cute to not fully walk in my purpose. It’s all about a made up mind, but it’s going to take a good look in the mirror to establish that decision on who you want to be and how you want to be remembered. I’ll end with this, you won’t have to try to tell people who you are, if you show it. Actions speak volumes, and I want my actions to bring God glory. I want those who follow me, to see Christ. That’s it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
How fun! If this is a week long trip, we are going to have to pace ourselves. I’m not one for too much adventure, but I’ll try my best to show my friend a great time. Monday, we may have a small breakfast at my place. Take it slow, because officially they have been traveling. I want to figure out what my friends wants to do What they are interested in seeing. I don’t go out much, but I have found many cool places on Instagram so we can find places! For lunch, we are going to eat a Trough in Richmond, Texas. Cute spot and refreshing food. Look at the boutiques around the city. We would end the night with wings, and a great movie! Let’s go to Tuesday, we go to throw axes in the afternoon and stop by The Breakfast Klub for an amazing brunch. Wednesday we hit up TopGolf and eat there, because there food is amazing. Thursday we go to the movies and maybe even do some rock climbing or a hike. Friday we cook!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Who deserves a little credit and recognition in my story? I honestly feel like I have a Grammy in my hand, and I’m about to give my speech. I’m living for this. Let me set the record straight, I am here and only here by the grace of God. I know you probably hear it often, but for me it comes from the deepest place of my soul. The Lord has restored my life, and given me a purpose I would have never found if I hadn’t developed a relationship with Him. His love has changed my life for the better and He truly is my driving force for all that I do. I’m blessed to do life with some great people who have all played a valuable role in my life and successes. They stuck with me in the tough times and clapped for me in the greatest times. My husband is my greatest support and biggest fan. I’m a huge dreamer and am always doing something, and he is always saying that I can do it. It’s amazing how someone can have so much faith in me. My parents are such a blessing to my life and they bring me such joy. They are super supportive and have always told me to fight for what I want. They were tough on me growing up and for that I’m appreciative. My leaders and pastors, wow….where do I even begin. You know those people that see greatest on you when you have forgotten who you are? From the first moment I joined their ministry, I felt seen. I felt I belonged. I was missing that for so long and felt like no one could see me for me. Well, that changed the day I became a member at Living Water Purpose & Destiny Church based out of Houston, Texas. They appreciated me for who I was, and helped me develop in the Word of God as well as a person. They challenged me to want more and to be better every day. My Living Water family, there’s no one like them. They are my brothers and sisters, and I mean that. They love me, and are always wanting to see me win. There are really so many people who have left a mark on my heart and have encouraged me throughout my life. I can’t forget my son, Baby J. He’s only 17 months, but when I left the hospital with him 17 months ago, I wasn’t the same woman. I found a strength I never knew I had. He makes it easy for me to be myself. He teaches me how to be patient, and to just keep smiling.
