We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The main reason I created Daisy Acres was to connect with others. I believe everyone should feel beautiful and loved no matter what and I encourage others to feel confident in themselves as well. Clothing is the means in which I choose to do this because it’s something I’m good at and I think clothing is a really fun and interesting way to explore who you are and express yourself however you may feel that day! You are allowed to reinvent yourself at any time which I think everyone should know. I love seeing peoples’ faces light up when they try on a piece of clothing they love. And that is what life is all about, finding joy in the smallest of moments. The name Daisy Acres was inspired when I moved out of the city and found a quiet place of refuge where I could rediscover all the things I loved about myself and reignite a spark in my heart that I had lost. The name Daisy honors my late dog that always gave me unconditional love and joy. The purpose of my life is to provide that same unconditional love to others. My long term goal is to create a physical Daisy Acres where I can invite people to connect with myself and others as a community where small moments of joy are easily visible. It will be a place where everybody is celebrated, loved and feels welcome to express who they are.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is my resiliency. Life can kind of toss you to and fro sometimes. I always say I have lived so many lives because I moved around a lot as a kid, placing me in a variety of different cities and friend groups. This made me very adaptable, willing to take risks, and with a lens to view and connect with many different walks of life; all things important to being an entrepreneur. Being raised an only child I often felt alone and like a wanderer. But, I always knew that the winding road would be of benefit and possibly inspire others who felt like me. In my wandering I’ve had a few different careers including construction management, house flipping, property management, and commercial real estate. The jobs I thrived in most were ones where I had a voice and could be authentically me. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to listen to your intuition and to not be afraid to make a change. Life is too short not to! You will know when something feels right or wrong and at very least you will learn something about yourself. Believe in yourself and stay true to who you are because the world needs who you were meant to be! I truly believe that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city of Houston and surrounding suburbs offer such a range of different activities and cuisine. Here are some of my favorite places to take visitors:

• Getting a one of a kind view into space at the George Obervatory in Fort Bend County.
• Going to Galveston and walking The Strand, riding the ferry, eating at Gaidos, and of course taking a stroll along the beach.
• Going to the Kemah Boardwalk and picking up fresh caught seafood at the fish markets.
• Going to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and walking Hermann Park.
• Favorite restaurants include Kenny and Ziggys, Pappasitos, Pappadeaux, the original Ninfas on Navigation, and Hans Crawfish. For a good downhome breakfast I’m going to Kitty’s in Magnolia, TX.
• Of course you have to take people to see the wonder that is Buc-ee’s.
• Astros game at Minutemaid Park.
• Ice skating at the Galleria during Christmas time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have inspired and supported me through the years. Firstly, God is always there to guide me through it all. I am confident in what I’m doing not because of who I am, but because of who He is. A huge shoutout to my husband, Brandon, who is open to all my crazy ideas and does everything possible to support me in making them happen. The look on his face sometimes when I tell him one of my big ideas keeps me laughing! My family who are incredibly supportive in every way with their pep talks and helping me at pop ups. And my friends who inspire me, promote me, and visit my pop up shops! And of course Daisy, my late dog for inspiring the name of my boutique.
