We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrian Dupree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrian, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
By the end of my career I hope to be the owner of a successful MedSpa and clinic for people who may or may not have the best healthcare. I am currently a labor and delivery nurse at a local Houston hospital. I have always had a passion for women’s health, especially black women’s health. The goal is to return to school to get master’s in order to become a women’s health nurse practitioner. I am very passionate about the healthcare system and finding ways to benefit my community. I love the idea of using profit from one business to support another especially when it’s for the greater good.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I am most proud about my blog. Throughout my years in undergrad I felt like my friend’s and I had to figure most of it out on our own. I love writing my posts knowing that I can help future nurses with study habits, passing classes, passing NCLEX, etc. Nursing school is hard and can be very overwhelming. The challenges you face in life along with pressures to succeed in nursing can be a lot. I was blessed to have my family and friends at my side to get me through. I did a lot of praying, meditating, and thinking about if this was truly what I wanted to do. To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t do it any other way. I’ve learned to really take life one day at a time, don’t rush the process and your time is your time. I had to be reminded that what’s takes someone else 2 days may take me 2 weeks and that’s okay. I want the world to know that my brand is all about giving back and helping someone who was once like you. Working together is how we make it in this world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

OMG there are so many places in Houston to check out. I would start the week with a trip to the Natural History Museum in Hermann Park. The exhibits are out of this world. We would end Monday at a margarita Monday. Tuesday we could start at top golf for half priced play time and end with steak night at Turkey Leg Hut. Wednesday, we could ride the metro rail around the city. I love doing this because you get to see so many different parts of the city. To end the night, we could catch a movie at the rooftop cinema. Thursday brunch at State Fare or Another Broken Egg. Both have great mimosas and delicious food. Thursday nights are for Seaside. $2 Thursdays. We could also hop to The Address! Friday we could go to zoo and end the night at grooves happy hour. On Saturday there are plenty of choices for brunch like Lost and Found or A’Bouzy with the night ending at a club or bar hopping in Midtown. Sunday Funday at Atomic Bottle or Chapman and Kirby.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would definitely like to shout out my family, especially my mom. Throughout my entire life they have kept me uplifted in prayer and making sure I accomplish anything I set my mind to. I also would like to shoutout Southern University School of Nursing and my favorite professor Rosalynn Thyssen. The lessons taught and learned from my experience there were like none other. I found fellowship and friendships for life.
