We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bruce, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by any and everything from nutrition, exercises/movements, books, meditation, systems, techniques, music, bio hacks, etc. that can assist people in optimal performance in sports and life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I get so excited about human development, transformation, evolution and optimal performance in sports and life! And love implementing every edge and healthy hack to improve one’s being. I’ve often said “Give me three months with an athlete and they will be a different animal” Basically I started in fitness in 1983 and continually learned new areas in fitness. Then sports performance, and then yoga, and then wellness. So now as a Wellness & Performance Coach I love working with a full spectrum of clientele from adaptive/special needs to professional athletes. I was told to concentrate on one area, however my heart guided me to work with everyone who wants to improve in sports and life. I feel what separates me from the pack is the infinite details I cover holistically, such as; are the feet in the best position, what is the breath, body, spirit, mind connection in this moment, what is the best posture for you now, where is your focus during the movement, what are you thinking and saying to yourself during the move, are you tensing your jaws, how much should your hips rotate out or in today. Also I like to bring the client as deep in the moment as possible, by doing what I call VIDA, which means Visualization, Inner-Dialouge, and Affirmation! Meaning see it (the outcome) speaking internally into existence the out come you want, and affirming it with belief that the outcome will take place! Also my restless creativity, which has often awaken me at night is a huge contribution and impact. I have 2 patents and just issued a third, and 4 trademarks. I also create subliminal music using the NLP technique. I’ve been consistent, giving up is not part of my DNA. It’s been somewhat seamless and natural for me, one of my middle and high school friends mom said she knew I would be in this profession. I’ve learned that staying, humble, realizing you can learn from anyone, and being enthusiastic keeps one in the growth zone. Also being grateful, service and giving back, confirms that there is abundance in the universe. I have helped so so many people succeed in this field. Even after decades of being in the field I still feel I’m just scratching the surface. It’s like we say in the martial arts, have a beginners mind. I want it to be known that movement and breath is true therepy especially since the body stores, remembered, and keeps score of experiences, and depending on the person more so the tramas and pitfalls, However we want to create breakthroughs and quantum leaps. I want to assist those in moving away from autopilot and began to pivot and create amazing habits for impeccable character and a divine legacy! Thank U
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m an outdoor person and love nice patios and parks! Therefore I would take them to Sundown at the Granada, Dream Cafe, or Season 52. I also like nice rooftops and my choice would be the Canvas hotel rooftop. If it so happens that there is a BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyle) event, I would definitely take them there. This is where I do amateur DJing. Participants bring their own vinyl (or records) and DJ for 20-40 minutes. It has absolutely been one of my favorite past times. The host of the event is random and there may be in 3 weekends in a row or 1 a month, you just never know so you just watch for a post on Instagram! They also have them on the roof at the Canvas Hotel. With C-19 there haven’t been many choices for live jazz, however, there is Freeman Jazz, and now more places are starting to open. Bishop Arts District would be an excellent treat for them. How could I not mention the Virgin Hotel, no Jazz but nice DJ tunes. We may even go to the Pan African Book store the experience the Drum Circle! We could also just simply take some fruit or fresh squeeze juice and go to the park, chill or and do yoga! Other places would be White Rock Lake, North Park Mall, and Downtown Forth Worth. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
OOh, that’s a good one! It’s so many people and experiences. However, I like to start with my mother and grandfather. They inspired courage, education, wisdom, mindfulness, balancing self-respect for yourself and others, gratitude among other things. Next would probably be the staff of my high school football team, who all were very respectful to all the players, never showing favoritism, and insisting that we enjoy the game. Their attitude help ignited us to the state football championship. Many motivational and inspirational speakers such as Wayne Dyer, Iyanla Vanzant, Tony Robbins, Ester Hicks, Joe Dispenza, Ekhart Tolle, Shakti Gawain, Les Brown, and Bruce Lipton. My first yoga instructor Kumar Pallana, and other instructors like Dharma Mittra, Bryan Kest (whom I Modeled when I started teaching yoga in 1996) B.K.S. Iyengar, Rodney Yee, and others who workshops I took. Strength/conditioning and movement coaches such as Charles Poliquin, Mike Boyle, and Paul Chex, and Ido portal. Martial artists Vince Tamura, Qui, Morihei Ueshiba, and Bruce Lee. Idols and such as Jack Johnson, Einstein, and Nelson Mandella, Barry Sanders, Bjorn Borg, Jim Thorpe, and Gandhi. Musicians: Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind And Fire, Isley Brothers, and Thievery Corporation. And My Kids ( Adults now)
