We had the good fortune of connecting with Bukky Olayinka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bukky, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
While mapping out my business plan the first thought that came to mind was catering to people like me. Growing up I was surrounded by lots of women so I got to see the different personalities a woman possesses but one thing majority of them had in common was finding ways to feel more confident about their appearance. As a teenager I also developed self-confidence issues due to having super thin brows, everyday I struggled with drawing in the perfect brows. One thing I know is lots of women struggle with applying make-up especially drawing in their eyebrows which may result to feeling less confident about their looks. I decided to become a make-up artist while attending college. As a make-up artist one of my main focus was achieving the perfect brows for all my clients. Doing this at the time brought me great satisfaction because I got to see amazing reactions from my clients as I enhanced their beauty using make-up. Although I still had much love for makeup after graduating college, started to appreciate my natural beauty more. While transitioning into a different career and phase of my life, I still wanted to pursue something relating to makeup. One of my biggest passions in life is to help others just like me, insecure about her looks and struggling with makeup. I researched different ways to help enhance ones natural beauty and one thing that stuck out to my was Semi-Permanent Make-up. After taking a few certification classes, I decided to open my own business (B.B. Aesthetics) that provides services like Microblading, Ombre Powder Brows, Lip Blushing/Lip Neutralization to help enhance ones natural beauty which automatically boosts self confidence.

What should our readers know about your business?
B.B. Aesthetics is a beauty business that offers permanent makeup services(Ombre Powder Brow/Microblading). I plan on expanding B.B. Aesthetics far more than just permanent makeup. B.B. Aesthetics has few factors that sets us apart from others; the first one being diversity, second is our mission statement, lastly personalization. Although these aren’t the only factors that sets us apart, they are the most important factors that makes us unique. Diversity is extremely important to me because growing up as a dark skin Nigerian girl I almost never saw presentation of girls who looked like me in the beauty industry. When creating B.B. Aesthetics, inclusion was a key aspect to my vision this helps all women feel as though they are worthy to experience luxury and feel confident at all times. The mission statement for my company is (B.B. Aesthetics mission is to help women of all shades feel their most confident while experiencing luxury. We do this by enhancing their natural beauty with permanent makeup and other aesthetic treatments). My goal is to help women around the world achieve whatever goal it is they have by educating and helping them become more confident in themselves. The last key factor of B.B. Aesthetics is personalization, here at B.B. Aesthetics we provide exceptional customer service that is personalized to each client. It is important for our clients to feel comfortable, well informed, and happy with their results. We go above and beyond to welcome our clients providing a comfortable waiting area, providing a customized consultation for each client to feel heard about their goal look, which all leads to amazing results and customer satisfaction. I am most excited about adding more services to B.B. Aesthetics this summer.

The only reason I am where I am today is by following my passion and believing God will get me where I’m supposed to be. As you can tell from my story and background I have always been part of the beauty industry and have always had a passion to help women. This derived from being around women my whole life and seeing the challenges they go through on a daily base. I have worked tirelessly to bring my vision into life and I am grateful my hard work is finally coming into fruition. Starting up my own business has not been an easy journey, I have faced many challenges from self doubt to difficulty marketing, but with all this I continue persevere.

I am extreme passionate about my brand and cannot wait to show the world what we have to offer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is filled with lots of fun attractions and sometimes it’s even hard to decide where to go. If my bestie were in town for the week my itinerary would include:

Day 1: Shopping and Lunch
To start off a great vaca the perfect thing to do is go shopping at the (Houston Galleria) to get some items for the week. Then lunch at my favorite restaurant close by (Le Colonial) to catch up.
Day 2: Spa Day
Enjoy a nice spa day at my favorite spot in Houston (Trellis Spa by the Houstonian).
Day 3: Rodeo/Concert
One of the most fun things to do around spring time in Houston is going to the (Rodeo) enjoying great food, fun rides, and going to the concerts.
Day 4: Dinner/Fun girls Night-out
After a full day at the rodeo the best thing is to take and break throughout the day to catch up on some work then head out in the even for dinner at (Guard and Grace Houston) with a few girlfriends and afterwards head to (77 Degrees) for drinks and a fun night out.
Day 5: Museum Tour and Dinner
Friday is the perfect day to enjoy a fun but chill activity. The (Fine Arts Museum Houston) is the perfect place to go. After this fun experience we head to (Parkerz Houston) a new lounge with the best mediterranean food and great vibes.
Day 6: Zumba/Lunch
You can’t come to houston and not go to (POST Houston). Saturday mornings are great for zumba which is offered in (POST Houston rooftop). After this fun activity to help burn some extra calories, (POST Houston) offers great diverse food choices to pick from. My favorite spot there is (Chopnblok).
Day 7: Sunday Funday
Last day my bestie is in town so its only right to give her a houston send off with Sunday Funday at (Brellas). Brellas is a great brunch restaurant with amazing ambience perfect for a sunday funday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my life, I consider myself to be highly motivated and goal driven. This stems from the people I have been surrounded with my whole life. My family is a big part of my life and without their support I will not be where I am today. Growing up as a Nigerian immigrant in American my dad always taught me life is what you make of it “In life you can get whatever it is you aspire for as long as you stay consistent and believe in yourself, America is where dreams can become reality” he said, this resonated with me as I moved through each stage of life. Not only have I become the person I am today because of family but also friends, the friends I surround myself with have always impacted my path to success in a positively. Most of the people I consider as close friends are all successful in their own way and this helps me stay motived to thrive for the level of success I want to achieve. That being said most of my friends are older than I am. As I teenager I always read success stories about how people became successful/wealthy and lots of these stories had one thing in common (surround yourself with people who are better than you or who are where you want to be in life so you can learn from them). My family and friends are definitely the ones who helped me grow as a person and go for what I am passionated about hence why I started B.B. Aesthetics. Although I give some credit to family and friends, I would also like to give myself some credit considering that I have been the one to constantly get up everyday choosing to work hard, choosing to seek more knowledge to better my craft, choosing to invest in myself/business rather than live in the moment.
