We had the good fortune of connecting with Callie Springs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Callie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My sister and I started MoCo Weddings just last year. We’re in basically all of the wedding Facebook groups and we started to wonder, what if there was a website that covered all of these aspects in one easy, searchable place? So we started MoCo as a place to give wedding advice to the brides and grooms of Montgomery County and to share our vintage wedding decor rental services.

What should our readers know about your business?
My sister and I have each been in the wedding industry for 5+ years and have always been into vintage antiques and home decor. So then we decided to start renting our antique pieces for people to use at their weddings (why buy something you’ll never use again when you can rent exactly what you need??). MoCo Weddings is a place for us to share our wedding advice in blog form (we plan to host guest blogs and interview with lots of different wedding professionals to give advice on all aspects of planning a wedding) and to share our decor rentals in a fun way that tries to specifically focus on brides and grooms in the Montgomery County Area. Nothing with business is easy. We’ve had a few other ventures similar to this in the past fail. MoCo is still a relatively small business. We’re working on bulking up our blog content and will soon be expanding the site to include our rental decor pieces. We want the site to first and foremost be a resource for people getting married in Montgomery County to come and find answers to their wedding questions. We want people to know that wedding planning doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. We are here to provide easy-to-follow guides to make everyone’s wedding something they’ll look back on fondly for the rest of their lives. We love helping people create their most beautiful day!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love the chill coffee shop vibes and Houston has no shortage of great coffee shops to hang out at, get some work done, and enjoy a great cup of coffee and a pastry. Some of our favorites are Tout Suite, Luce Ave, and Boomtown. While we’re grabbing coffee at Boomtown, we’d take a stroll down 19th Street for some great vintage shopping at Retropolis. This place is filled with vintage clothes and treasures and it’s almost impossible to leave empty-handed. Another of our favorite areas is the Museum District. Our favorites are the Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Art. Beautiful art, interesting traveling exhibits, butterfly gardens, gem exhibit, you name it! There is truly something for everyone in the Museum District, no matter what your interests are. For a lovely breakfast or lunch out with friends, Tiny Boxwoods is the place to be. They have great shopping and serve beautiful food in a beautiful space. Also try Tiny’s No5 and get dessert at Tiny’s Milk & Cookies. In terms of night life, we love a concert at House of Blues. We usually grab dinner downstairs before heading up to the concert hall and enjoying some good tunes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to my sister (Kenzie Rankin co owner of Galavants Coffee) for always being into my crazy ideas and helping them become a reality. For always being my go to person to help with styled shoots and the best buying buddy when out searching for new rental items. I’d also like to thank Carolyn Mills (wedding planner extrodinaire, owner of The Sweet Tea Event Co.) for giving me my first “real” job in the wedding industry and guiding me along the way of being an awesome wedding venue manager and teaching me how to make each wedding couple feel special on their Big Day! Her selflessness and care and attention to every detail shines through in her work!
