We had the good fortune of connecting with Camren Tamayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camren, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my business really came down to balance and independence. As a father, my time with my son is very important — I have him every weekend, and I didn’t want to miss out on that because of a rigid work schedule. At the same time, I’ve always had a passion for my craft and wanted the freedom to build something of my own. Starting my business gave me the flexibility to be present for my family while also pouring energy into growing my skills, serving clients, and creating an experience I could be proud of.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting to where I am now definitely wasn’t easy. I come from a family where no one had run their own business before, so I didn’t have a blueprint to follow. It took a lot of patience, trial and error, wasted money, and countless hours of research to figure out what worked and what didn’t. The process was frustrating at times, but it taught me resilience and forced me to grow as both a person and a business owner.

What makes me different is that I don’t just cut hair — I put focus on building relationships, creating a comfortable experience, and treating every client like family. I’m not afraid to learn, adjust, and keep improving, and I think that sets me apart from others in this industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was taking someone around Houston, I’d start with breakfast at The Breakfast Klub—chicken and waffles is a classic here. For lunch, I’d probably take them to Ninfa’s on Navigation for some real Houston Tex-Mex. In the afternoon, I like showing people Buffalo Bayou Park because you get the skyline views and the unique side of the city. For dinner, I’d take them to Turkey Leg Hut since it’s an experience on its own, and then maybe wrap up the night with drinks at a rooftop spot downtown like High & Dry so they can really see the city lit up.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I’d thank my family — especially my son — because he’s the biggest reason I push so hard. I’d also thank the clients who trusted me from the start, even when I was still building my name. Their support and word-of-mouth helped me grow. And finally, I’d thank the people close to me who encouraged me to take the leap into business ownership, reminding me that I had the talent and work ethic to make it happen.
