We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was a part of the massive tech layoffs. I had been applying for jobs for over a week and felt so tired and burnt out. During this time, I decided to reorganize my home and started tearing apart my storage closet and pantry. After I had finished, I felt refreshed and happy with my productivity and what I had created in my home. I realized that I could do this for others and help them organize their homes as well. I know what it’s like to be busy and have no time to declutter your space. I had decided then and there to create an affordable service to help others organize their spaces.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Firstly, I am still a very small business. It is much harder than working in the corporate world in my opinion because you are the only person that can keep things going and running. However, I love every single second of it. I love how it’s mine and that I can be creative in my own way. I learned that I definitely could not do it alone. I have enjoyed every single client I have been able to work with and thankful that they trusted me even though I just started. I believe that Clear Space HTX is not just about organizing, but creating a functional space for families and small businesses affordably. I wanted to create a business more about people and helping others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My must-eat places are probably Rice To Meet You, Aiko, and La Lucha. I love hanging out outdoors so I would recommend Discovery Green. If you love events, Houston always has good concerts, markets, and more! Houston is a huge melting pot and has so much good food, nightlife, and more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so grateful to my boyfriend, friends, and family that have been so supportive. Starting a business is scary and there are a lot of unknowns. It’s very time-consuming and takes 150% of you and your time. I feel very grateful that I have such a supportive group of people in my life that are cheering me on and helping me where they can.
