We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Broussard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have been very fortunate to have been hired by Fortune 500 companies with sales and marketing roles for 22 years and have had the pleasure of working with some key mentors who took the time to and energy, investing in my growth. To this day, those relationships still exist and intertwine with my business. My love of selling has always been about creating sustaining, meaningful, genuine, and trusting relationships and partnerships with good people who work hard. I have kept that standard always which has fortunately prospered to owning my own business under my name.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Throughout my work life, one of the most enjoyable aspects of my roles was to plan events. I love to celebrate people, and bring them together and gather for a common goal. I so enjoy meeting new people from different backgrounds and learning. I am a travel and leisure enthusiast so my years of being fortunate to have those experiences led me to wanting to create and inspire gatherings of groups, friends, families, in a corporate or all occasion atmosphere. I have always enjoyed hosting and entertaining with clients, friends and family, so I incorporated it into my business relationships. Lessons learned well that would be a book in itself, ha! However, generally speaking you learn over time when and where to spend your time and money that will fully benefit yourself and those around you. I was raised middle-class and had to earn my degree and had my first job at 16. And I haven’t stopped working since. I built Carrie DeLea & Company to showcase my passion for design, decor and creating events that are unique and memorable, and additionally to ease the stress of planning an event providing a one stop, turn-key place to do it all.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I can certainly give you a most recent example of this! My best friend turned 40 in August, and our girlfriend group decided on a trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I of course was eager to plan our activities so I did my research on local eateries, activities, tourism bucket list spots, etc. I did a 5 day itinerary for all 7 of us. We did everything from lunching and dining at various cuisine hotspots, shopping on King Street, visiting Boone Plantation, taking a carriage ride through Historic Charleston, a Haunted Tour of the City Jail, and a Sunset Harbor Cruise! I even planned all the transportation and ordered InstaCart for our Airbnb. It sounds like a lot but I love doing those kinds of things!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not have been able to have succeeded professionally if it wasn’t for my Family. My Father held many management and sales roles throughout my childhood I learned and observed from. He bought me the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey when I was in High School, and it was my introduction into laying a foundation in doing business with people, and also how to have self-discipline in your work life. Additionally, I had the pleasure of working with a Life Coach, Martha Mangum, over the past year, and she has helped me tremendously in creating my vision of creating Carrie DeLea & Company, and additionally focusing on the core values in what is necessary to be successful in my business.
