We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherish Chere’t and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cherish, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I, created Austin Rowe in an effort to honor my family. Austin Rowe honors my late grandmother, Alma Austin and my great aunt, Virgie Rowe. These beautiful women were strong, educated ladies that believed in faith and family! In addition, they were confident women who loved education and serving their community. Austin Rowe is in honor of these beautiful women who exuded style and grace on a daily basis. Legacy is important to my family and I wanted to find a way to honor my family. So I created a for profit business and a non-profit business to honor my family’s rich legacy.

What should our readers know about your business?
Focused on family and fashion, Austin Rowe aims to assist fashion forward men and women with the opportunity to complement their daily ensemble with one-of-a-kind shoes and accessories from designers around the world. In addition, our goal is to offer a seamless 24/7 shopping experience. Our hope is that each customer leaves our website with an unforgettable shopping encounter while purchasing an affordable pair of shoes and or accessories in their size.

I’m excited about our growth and development.

The journey hasn’t been easy but it has been a process. I’m thankful for the learning opportunities and various ways to gather useful information to improve as a business owner and as a company as a whole.

I think what has helped me is the ability to rely on my tribe of friends and family and their various levels of expertise. In addition, taking the time to invest in myself and my business has been paramount to our success. I don’t have all the answers but I can rely on others around me who are doing a phenomenal job in their industry and can offer tips/tricks that propel me to the next level.

I’ve learned that presentation, consistency and reliability are key! So if I have to take a hit to make sure that a package or an item arrives in a timely manner, I’m willing to go the extra mile to make sure it happens.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Houston and I love taking people around the city to experience the amazing things we have to offer. So, I would start off with a morning walk at Memorial – Clay Family Eastern Glades. Then I would make my way to breakfast at The Breakfast Klub. From TBK, I would do a photo tour of downtown. Then I would grab lunch to-go at Local Foods for a picnic in the park at Discovery Green. After viewing the installation at Discovery Green, I would show them Minute Maid and Toyota Center. You’ve got to stop and watch a quick pick-up game across from Toyota Center. Leaving the Toyota Center we would stop by Graffiti Park for some fun pics. On the way to dinner, I would stop by Crumbville for a vegan treat. Dinner would end at Steak 48.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has influenced my entrepreneurial efforts and helped to cultivate the woman that I am today.

I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my mother who passed away recently. She was not only a wife, a mother, a pastor, an educator, a news reporter and an entrepreneur but she balanced each role with style, wisdom and grace. My desire is to reflect her, make her proud and continue to tell others of her greatness. #joannvallierush
