We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Chicas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claudia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Coming from a low-income family, I know that professional photography can feel out of reach for many. That’s why I’ve prioritized incorporating accessibility into my business model—whether it’s through flexible pricing, special packages, or community collaborations. Everyone deserves to have their memories preserved beautifully, and I aim to make that possible for as many people as I can. This perspective not only keeps me grounded but also reminds me why I chose this path in the first place.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography has been a part of my life for over a decade, and each day brings an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine my craft. I truly believe that practice makes perfect, and every moment I spend behind the lens helps me become a better photographer. What sets me apart is my commitment to capturing authentic, meaningful moments while staying inclusive and open to all members of the community. I want everyone I work with to feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s built on a genuine love for creating memories that people can treasure forever. Whether it’s a family portrait, a special event, or an intimate session, I strive to deliver work that reflects the unique beauty of every individual and moment. My goal is not just to take photos but to provide an inclusive, collaborative experience that leaves my clients feeling confident and cared for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As someone with a deep appreciation for art, I love exploring Houston’s vibrant creative scene. While places like MFAH and Sawyer Yards are fantastic, there’s something uniquely special about visiting smaller, local museums. These spaces often feature work by emerging artists, and the experience becomes even more enriching when the artist is present to discuss their pieces. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the local art community and gain insight into their creative processes.

When it comes to food, Houston is a paradise with endless options for every craving imaginable. But as a Houston native, my comfort food favorite will always be Frank’s Pizza. Their brick oven pizza is the best. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a foodie, Houston has so much to offer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to thank my sister, who introduced me to the world of photography and supported me as I pursued this dream. Her guidance and encouragement gave me the confidence to start down this path.

I also want to recognize my longtime boyfriend, Jordan, who has been by my side since the beginning. Not only was he my very first model, but he continues to support me in every way, even stepping in as a model when needed. His unwavering belief in me has been a source of strength and inspiration.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the University of Houston, where I earned my degree in photography and digital media. The PDM Block Program, in particular, played a role in helping me grow as an artist. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals who supported and elevated one another was an incredible experience that shaped me into the creative professional I am today.

Each of these people and experiences has contributed to my story, and I’m deeply grateful for their role in helping me pursue my passion.
