We had the good fortune of connecting with Collin Holderread and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Collin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is a necessary part of growth in life and overall has been a key factor to helping me develop as fast as I have in my career. Silencing my inner critique and learning to be comfortable while being uncomfortable has also played a huge role in my music journey. It is true when they say “no risk no reward.” There is always a possibility of failure, just like with any risk worth taking, but the possibility of doing what nobody thinks you can and achieving success is what keeps me going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and hunger. I work on my craft every day, still just as hungry as the first day I started. This drive is what has allowed me to develop so quickly as an artist. Although, this level of commitment was not easy to achieve. I had days when I wanted to quit, and it felt like I would never have a good idea again. I have had relationships suffer and had trouble finding the right work-life balance. I am still working on overcoming these things every day.

I am most proud of my second project that dropped December 4th, 2021: Houston’s Best Kept Secret. I faced adversity and challenges throughout that project and battled through it until the end. I am proud of how that record reflects a complete body of work and shows the growth I have experienced as an artist. This record is me rapping at a high level for seven straight songs. You can listen to “Houston’s Best Kept Secret” now on all streaming platforms!

The main lessons I have learned are don’t take yourself too seriously, always plan for the future, and don’t forget to enjoy life along the way

I want the world to know I love what I do, and I will never stop believing in myself. I am hungry for success!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we would go to Pappas Seafood to eat, then go walk around the galleria to check out some clothes. After that, we would definitely head over to some local nightlife spots. Houston is home to some amazing bars and clubs. One of the most interesting things for me is to see the skyline. So I would bring my friend to Buffalo Bayou or another area with a great view of the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my family and my girlfriend for all the support they have given me from day one. My music wouldn’t be where it is now without them. I appreciate everything they have done for me to help me grow as a person and to push my career forward. Also, I would like to give a shoutout to my engineer Matt O’Neil for helping me develop into the artist I am today and Studio 713 for always giving me a welcoming creative space to record my music in.
