We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had a deep passion for fitness and helping others achieve their health goals. This passion made the idea of turning my hobby into a career incredibly appealing.
Second, I saw a gap in the market for personalized and holistic fitness coaching. Many fitness programs are one-size-fits-all, and I wanted to offer tailored plans that consider each client’s unique needs, goals, and lifestyles.
I was inspired by the potential to make a real impact on people’s lives. Seeing clients transform their health and well-being is incredibly rewarding and drives me to continuously improve my offerings.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that our struggles shape our strengths and our stories. Growing up, I faced significant challenges with my weight and body image, compounded by having a mother who struggled with severe mental health issues. These experiences fueled my determination to forge a different path and learn how to take the best care of myself.
Initially, my journey was difficult and misguided. I turned to competitive bodybuilding, thinking it was the solution to health, but it ended up being quite the opposite, taking a toll on me both mentally and physically. Over the next decade, I sought a more balanced and sustainable approach to achieving my health goals.
My work in research at MD Anderson was pivotal, introducing me to the world of integrative medicine and setting me on a path to a much healthier lifestyle. This blend of personal experience and professional knowledge culminated in the creation of our transformation program. Our program not only helps people get in great shape but also improves their overall health and well-being.
Personal training is not just about helping someone get summer-ready; it can truly change the trajectory of someone’s life. I consider it one of the most rewarding career fields, as it allows me to make a meaningful impact on people’s health and well-being. I’m incredibly grateful that I can do what I love while helping others transform their lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So my best friend and I both have 3 children including babies. Our idea of a great week in Houston would include lots of family friendly activities as well as some self care time for mom.
We would take the kids to stay at the Marriott with the Texas pool and visit the children’s museum and the museum of natural science. We would probably spend a couple days in Galveston visiting the beach and Moody Gardens. After several fun filled days, we’d drop the kids with their Dads and visit the Houstonian for a great workout and spa day. The restaurants in rotation would be True Food Kitchen, Flower Child, Sweet Green, Hungrys, & Bellagreen.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe so much of my success to my incredible clients. Their dedication, hard work, and trust in my guidance have been the driving force behind my career. The personal connections I have forged with each one of my clients are the cornerstone of my business. It’s more than just fitness; it’s about building relationships and supporting each other through every step of the journey. Even though I help my clients improve their fitness there have been numerous ways I have received guidance from them. Being surrounded by likeminded people with goals of self improvement bleeds into so many other area of life, not just in fitness, but business, family life, the list goes on. Success in personal training is truly a collaborative effort, where both trainer and client work together to achieve greatness.
One person who definitely deserves recognition in supporting my dream is my husband Jacob because he has been my unwavering pillar of support. His emotional support has been invaluable, during challenging times and celebrating every success, big or small. His dedication and partnership is crucial in building our passion into a thriving business.
