We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyrus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cyrus, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always owned my own business. 15 years owning restaurants then took a left turn and became a beekeeper. We thought it would be a side gig/hobby that made a few dollars or at the least had some honey for family and friends. It took off faster than we thought.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My 15 years in the restaurant industry is one of the things that has shaped our beekeeping business. Customer service is a priority. Whether it’s the restaurant, shops, and other artisans we supply or our sweet customers at the 4 farmers markets we do every Saturday. Coming from the restaurant industry I focused on them as customers and we sure have some great ones, even Michelin rated customers. We focused on steady organic growth. Adding a few customers each year as our hive count and harvest grew each year.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Before we were beekeeper ls and selling at farmers markets we loved to go every Saturday to get the freshest veggies and highest quality meats directly from the farmers. It’s fun to see the new products and produce as the seasons change and the entrepreneurs innovate and add new products. There’s so many great restaurants in the Houston area some of our favorites are Nobie’s, Kata Robata, Katami, Romano’s Pizza, Sao Lao, Caracol, Cuchara, Harlem Road Texas BBQ, Bashi, Chefs Providence, Luliet, Robins Snowflake Donuts, Tacos Doña Lena, and so many more amazing spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Sandi Murray. She wanted to get some beehive for our tiny backyard because she loved to garden, and I wanted nothing to do with them for obvious reasons. Fast forward 6 months from that spring about 10 years ago and I found myself not working and by chance the guy she got the 2 hives from was selling 34 hives and a shipping container full of bee equipment. Without ever having helped her other than watching from the bedroom windows, I emailed him, she emailed him, we talked and I dove in head first. She supported my endeavor in every way and couldn’t and wouldn’t have done it without her.
