Meet Dana Thompson | Beauty Supply Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What type of business should I start?Where should I put it, and will it succeed?
What should our readers know about your business?
I Started this business during covid. At that time most salons were closed and everyone was doing their own hair. The closest beauty supply store was 20 minutes away. I was for sure if it would be successful and where to start. So, I first prayed on it and started fasting. Then thing started falling in place. I found a location right off of I-45 on Radford in Spring, TX were a lot of new subdivisions were built and neighborhoods where. The first year started off slow but we did get customers at the same time. I had one employee, my daughter. She worked till 3 and I would take over when I got off of work till 8pm and 9pm on Friday. I use to work every week open and close. The second year I no longer had anyone to run the store in the morning. So, the store stayed closed until I got off of work. I never had the best credit so I never qualified for a business loan to help me out with my inventory so that I could put more things in the store. Therefore, every time I got paid I used it to slowly purchase inventory and pay bills. February of 2023 I hired a young lady by the name of Cashena Almond. I told that I know that I didn’t have much in the store at that. But, I plan to grow and I want her to grow with me. A few months after I hired her someone broke into my store. Through the grace of God
Cashena came to work still that day and help me clean up all the glass and everything else around the store. In the past year, having someone like Cashena that knows a lot about hair has helped Vanity Essentials grow tremendously compared to where we were. My plans were to “Keep it cute, Keep it close.” Help our ladies out, that way they dont have to drive far out to get what they need. My intentions is to provide for all types of hair. I never knew how much responsibilities comes along with owning a business. Like the quarterly taxes that has to be filed every three months. The more money you make the more taxes you have to pay. It is not easy I am still learning everyday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would like to go have a girls day relaxing at the Spa.
Spa World
The go to a nice hibachi restaurant in Katy or The Woodlands. Go to Margaritaville.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
