We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Cordero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Starting a business is a difficult decision on its own, the thought of failure creates doubts in many of us and can be the main reason to not take the leap of faith. Success is difficult to achieve no matter what you’re are trying to pursue but it is not impossible as long as the person is willing to do everything it takes to achieve it. There are multiple factors behind the growth and success of my photography business “DC Photography” but the main ones include hard work, discipline, and dedication for what I do.
Hard work is a characteristic I have always been surrounded with throughtout my life. Being born and raised in Cuba I have seen my family work hard every day to move to this country and give my brother and I a better future. As an immigrant I have kept that work ethic through everything I do, specially my business. I work countless hours finding new photoshoot ideas, editing my clients pictures to perfection and offering them all my knowledge and guidance throughout their session.
Additionally, discipline is another very crucial factor that has lead to the growth of my business. As a current full time nursing student discipline to manage my time and know what tasks require my attention the most is the most challenging part. Through numerous assignments, tests and clinical hours I still manage to take time for my clients and create themed mini sessions for them and still keep up with my socials and content. Discipline is difficult to maintain and although there are times where it does become stressful and overwhelming the fruits of my work are worthy.
Last but not least, the most important factor for the growth and success of my business has been dedication. Having a passion for what I do is what makes my work not feel like work. I enjoy every second of my sessions, I love interacting with my clients and getting to know them as I create genuine connections with them. Also, the way I become a part of their lives as they schedule time and time again for their special moments. Seeing the confidence boost in my clients as they see the results and the gratitude they feel once they receive their gallery is something I forever cherish. Dedication to keep making my clients feel beautiful, and freeze in time their most precious moments is the fuel to the growth of my business.
Success is defined as reaching desired outcomes, and although I still know my business has so much growth ahead of it I have reached goals I never thought I would through hard work, discipline and dedication.

My favorite part about my photography is how candid and natural the pictures I take are. I love to capture authentic feelings and moments in my client’s sessions. Editing wise I love making my photos look clean, bright and true to color. The art of photography is something that has not been easy to achieve and although I started my journey a year ago I have always had an eye for photos and a creative mind therefore I learned the technical part through teaching myself and watching videos.
I am most proud of how I have built a clientele for myself that is loyal to my business and continue to support me through everything I do. I am most excited to continue growing my business and possibly doing weddings in the future.
Some lessons I have learned along the way are that patience is crucial when starting a business. As humans we want results from our hard work right away and if we don’t receive them we tend to give up and move on to the next thing. Being patient has taught me that results take time, as a photographer I had to do photoshoots at the beginning for free to build my portfolio and although it felt like my work was being taken for granted it was the best way to show my possible clients what I could offer.
I want the world to know that behind every picture I take there is a a passion for what I do and there is a story I am capturing for my client. Whether it is a milestone, event, elopement, family or marketing session I want each photoshoot to portray the significance this moment has in my client’s life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As someone who hasn’t been in Houston for long it has been difficult to get to know such a big city but I have grown to love many spots. As a girl I love to take pictures in aesthetic places so I would recommend my friend to go first to River Oaks. There are many cute spots to walk around, shop and eat such as Little Hen and Love Shack Fancy. Also, I would take them to Buffalo Bayou for a picnic with a skyline view of downtown. Last but not least I would take them to some of the Cuban restaurants such as Flor de Cuba, where we can enjoy traditional cuban food and live music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends have been the most supportive throughout my business journey. My parents are my biggest inspiration to work hard and give 1000% to everything I do and I would not be where I am today without them. They have helped me set up my equipment numerous times at my at home studio, continuously share my content and have forever encouraged me to keep going. My boyfriend is also my number one supporter and the best helper I could as for, he comes with me to sessions and assists with anything I need. They are the best support group I could ask for and I owe the growth of my business to them as well.
