We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniquia Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniquia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success would have to be consistency. Showing up every day and giving my brand the best I can offer daily. Even when I don’t want to, I show up anyway. It took a lot of discipline to get my brand to where it is now, so showing up every day is essential to me.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I feel that my authenticity is what sets me apart from other makeup artists in the industry. I’m not afraid of getting creative when it comes to makeup because I feel that makeup is and was used as an expression of one’s individuality, amongst other things. I like to tell people, “I am not your traditional makeup artist.” Granted, I do what they do, but when I do your makeup you get an experience, not just a service.

I am most proud of the woman I’ve become through this entire journey I embarked on years ago. I’ve always known I was meant to do something amazing with my life but never would I have imagined I’d end up where I am today. This experience has grown and stretched me into a woman I sometimes still don’t recognize. It has shown me strength, courage, and boldness I didn’t know I had. I am so very proud of myself for stepping out on faith and starting my business.

It was not easy. Getting others to believe in me as I believed in myself was one of the hardest challenges I faced. It’s like, I know I had what it takes to be great, but others didn’t see it until they did. I felt like I was constantly trying to prove myself. With the way social media is now, it’s hard to get clientele if you don’t have a growing social media or good social media presence. It’s not like back in the day when people were getting clients based on word of mouth. You have to work for those clients now. In the beginning, I was really shy and not big on social media at all so I had to push myself out of my comfort zone. But it worked out for the best because it challenged me creatively and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

I’ve learned no matter what it may look like in the beginning, keep going and trust the process. One client can turn it 100; you just have to stay focused and remain resilient.

Dollface Esthetics Beauty Spa has so much in store this year. We will be expanding into the cosmetics industry, so stay tuned.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I would first take her to the famous Turkey Neck Hut to eat. Next, since we’d be so close to the historic 3rd ward, I’d take her through for sights. Then, we’d hit up the Baked Potatoe Factory on MLK. For drinks, I would take her to Taste Bar which is always a vibe. They have a live band, awesome drinks, and they have a menu full of delicious delectables that I know she’d love. To have some fun in the sun we’d head downtown/midtown and hop on the Trill On Wheel Bike bar which is the first Hip-hop bike bars in Houston. After that, I’d take her for a bike ride downtown to do some sightseeing and then to Buffalo Bayou Park for a quick picnic and more sightings. To top the week off, I can’t forget about Gangnam Spa Healing Paradise to send her back home relaxed and full of tranquility.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has honestly been my biggest supporter and my rock throughout this entire journey. Anytime I felt like giving up or felt overwhelmed, he was always there, ready to encourage me and surround me with love that kept me going. He’s stayed up all night listening to my crazy ideas about new content and has just been there for me when I needed him most. I honestly don’t know how I could’ve made it this far without him and I’m so grateful to have him in my life.
