We had the good fortune of connecting with Danita Tate and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danita, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Baton Rouge; Louisiana and my background has shaped who I am in many ways. Being the second oldest child of a drug-addicted mother led me to do things that would land me behind bars. I did things that I didn’t want to do for my siblings to have a roof over their heads and food on the table. My past has led me to be compassionate about others and to be an advocate for young girls that are in the situation I once was.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Chiquitas Miracle Works is a bathroom cleaner and Multi-Purpose Cleaner that I created and named for my late sister Attorney Chiquita Tate, I so proud of what I have done with it. It’s currently available on Amazon. My manager Simone Higginbotham has assisted me with business and marketing side by continuing to expand my network. Along the way I have learned that everyone is not going to support you and I am okay with that. The things that set me apart from my counterparts is that I was once a survivor that transformed into an overcomer. There is a difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the simple things in life, still the girl from the hood. Baton Rouge the capitol of Louisiana has so much to offer. The first stop on tour would be a family-owned business in North Baton Rouge called Tony’s Seafood. There my best friend would find some of Louisiana’s best delicacies such and boiled crawfish and of course boudin. Can’t come to north Baton Rouge and not visit one none other than The Southern University. If it’s in the fall, we could catch a football game and hear their band “The Human Jukebox”. Of course, the night life downtown of 3rd street is full good food and music from any genre you can think of. We would end our trip at the only and only Krispy Kreme in the city while the Red-Hot Light is on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to my late sister Attorney Chiquita Tate. Chiquita was an up-and-coming attorney in Baton Rouge that was murdered by her husband in 2009. Where we are from, she was called the “Ghetto Super Star, always taking on cases of the underdog. I dedicate this shout to her memory that has pushed me to create my own cleaning supply products in her name (Chiquitas Miracle Works). Her drive and persistence live within me
