We had the good fortune of connecting with Darious Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darious, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The job of any musician is to bring people together. Music is about connection All of my songs are personal stories from my life, but once the music is out there it belongs to the people who receive it. I named my band PRESIDENT FLORES for a reason. I really would like to become president someday and use the perspective I’ve gained through success and failure to help in any way that I can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I learned how to sing and play guitar by imitating my heros. I also was fortunate enough to grow up around people who loved music. My Dad always took me to concerts. I began making my own material at age 13. Right now I’m trying to secure funding and make the right connections to play more shows and properly track my albums for release. B I’ve got at least three LPs. Maybe four. I’ve always put out demos recorded on cellphones the moment the songs were written. You can find those on my SoundCloud. Keep in mind though, they’re just bedroom recordings, and sometime soon they’ll be properly released.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When i was little, my Dad often took us to Houston to spend time together. One of the best places to go (for a small town boy like me) was The Galleria! I’d never seen anything like it! I even know how to ice skate (sort of!) because of that time of my life. I was born in Houston, but i never lived there. Previously, i was hesitant to answer this question because i didn’t want to put up a front and act like i know Houston, “like that!” You know what i’m saying? I respect H town too much to try to be phony about it. I grew up going to concerts with my Dad, so i always went to different venues there and in Austin to see my favorite bands. I have eclecitc tastes! I’ve seen everyone from Miley Cyrus/Hillary Duff at the Houston Rodeo/Astrodome. to Ekkstacy last year (i took my grandpa), to The Cure at The Woodlands when i was five. Let your heart guide you. And your ears!

I even saw High School Music live at the Toyota center! I AINT BULLSHITTEN!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I credit my influences. There are many I could name here, but my main the would be Robert Smith of The Cure, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.
