We had the good fortune of connecting with David Garcia Marino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because it is the only thing that ever made sense to me. I gravitated towards music as an escape whenever there were big parts of my life that weren’t making sense at the time and I always used it as an avenue for me to express with and deal with those things. It became such a big part of who I was that I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied if I didn’t pursue a career in it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think something that sets me and my music apart is how much I try to merge and draw from the experiences I have had in my life and use that to try and push the boundaries of what I do with music. I grew up in different places around the world and those places play an important role in what makes up the music I make today. Additionally, I am almost obsessed with methodical experimentation and writing music with different methods and starting points to see what has the best results.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Sig’s Lagoon to look at some records and go thrifting at Retropolis. Memorial City Mall has some fond memories attached to it too and I would probably take them there for a while, but my favorite place growing up was the Aquarium where I decided was the best place to spend my 9th birthday.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think everyone that surrounds me and I spend time with is important to who I am and the identity I take within my music. I have always valued the amount of influence other people can have on your life, so I try to surround myself with people that support what I do and inspire me and motivate me creatively. My friends and family are the most important to me and they are what makes me who I am and the music I make today.
